The driver's side window on my 98 explorer has come off the plastic guides/clips on the window regulator rail (they are plastic correct?, I'm just going from memory and I remember them being white and plastic looking). I guess the adhesive that attaches the plastic clips to the window finally just wore out. I tried fixing this once using some heavy duty sealant supposedly used to seal windshields that I got from NAPA (it was black tarry gunk and cost $12 bucks for a tube). Scraped all the old adhesive off the window and plastic clips, cleaned with rubbing alcohol and applied the new sealant. Let it fix for 2 days.

The window worked fine after that for about 2 months then the new adhesive sort of skinned over and gave way as well  So now I'm back to square one. Anyone know of a better way to seal the windows back to the clips... Better sealant out there ( ie something comparable to the stuff ford uses in the factory), or another way altogether? I tried searching the site for this question but was unable to find anything so if anyone has the link or ideas I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

BTW The dealership told me I would need a new window as they come with the clips already attached. Something like $650 with labor. Yeah Right. There has to be another way...

they make a silicone called sikaflex,, if you put that on there,, it's almost permanent,,
i have used it to attach transducers for depth finders, so it is water proof, and it is a PITA to get back off, might fit the bill,,,,,,,

Impossibles02, Just wondering if you tried the sikaflex on yours, and if so, did it work? I'm having the same problem with mine, I tried super glue, silicone, and getting new clips. I can't find the clips/guides anywhere. I don't believe they even come with the regulator it self, then again, I'm not spending 50 bucks on a regulator just for the window guides. Anyone else have some advice?
:salute:

If you are talking about where the glass actually attaches to clip, that attaches to the regulator, then I have tried some of the best adhesives around and never had significant success.

I have always had to replace the glass.
Yeah, for an unstuck clip :(

The materials engineer here at Ford informed me of a company that supplies us... I forget the name, but somebody had this exact problam sometime back in maybe January and I posted his response then. IIRC, it was a 2-part urethane adhesive. One-part urethanes use moisture from the air to cure, while two-part urethanes use a hardener. He said that the one-part urethanes will take a few weeks to come to strength, wheras the two-part urethanes take a few hours (overnight at the worst)...

Now, If I could just remember the name of it.... Lemme ask him again...
