So i replaced my passenger window regulator thinking the reason it wouldnt roll up was because it was bad. Got new one and same thing. Window will roll down but not up..

My guess is a broken wire somewhere...any other ideas?

New development... Controls on passenger window will cause motor to spin if pressed down, but not up. However controls on driver's side panel that controls all windows, passenger motor won't spin down or up.

Can a bad masterswitch on the driver's side panel cause my passenger controls not to work?

just fixed mine last year. same problem, open drivers door, pull the door boot loose on door and on body. slightly pulls on each wire till the broken one pops out. then fix and you will be all good.

All wiring for the windows go through the driver's master switch. While it's possible that the master switch is faulty, it is more likely that you have a broken/damaged wire in the boot like 98rig said.

Having said that:

I had similar electrical issues with my 02 xlt. The dome lights would stay on until the battery saver feature turned them off, the accessory delay wasn't working, the driver side puddle light didn't work, the keypad on the door would set off the alarm when I pressed it, the door ajar light would flash and beep at highway speeds, the radio would shut off as soon as I turned the key off, the delayed accessories didn't work, etc. Recently all 4 windows stopped working. Most recently the driver door lock actuator stopped working.

A lot of electrical issues can be traced back to broken/damaged wire(s) in the boot between the body and the driver's door. I have found 3 broken wires and repaired them. The thin black ground wire was broken and after repairing it all was back to normal. When the windows stopped working, I repaired the thick black ground wire and the windows now work like a champ. I had to repair the pink/black wire to fix the driver door lock actuator.

Here is the thread for removing the door panel: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums//showthread.php?t=303524

Here is a great thread for checking for broken/damaged wires, thanks to synyster for this awesome write-up: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums//showthread.php?t=270081

Be sure to take your time when looking for broken/damaged wire(s). Check all the wires for breaks/damage. When you think you're done looking, look again, and again, and again. A bright flashlight can be very helpful.

If you come up with nothing, here is a great link for troubleshooting the power windows, thanks to theofam for this great link Dead Link Removed I have this downloaded and can sent it to you if you want.

Good luck with the fix! :biggthump

Please keep us posted as feedback helps others reading this post looking for a fix to the same or similar issue!

Just to throw my two cents in for future visitors with same problems - seems too easy, but I had all 4 windows dead and sure enough, inside that rubber boot were two broken wires. $2 fix - gotta love it.

BUMP

Ihatecars, how about an update. :dunno:

heres a cheap trick.....if your windows has a hard time going up....then simply spray WD-40 on side rubber and it'll zoom up!!!!.....find out recently that the side rubber cause the windows with time to jam a little

Thats a good idea, im gonna try it. As far as the windows, I had the same problem a couple years ago. After poking around on the visible wires and switches, I couldn't find the problem without taking the truck apart to follow the wires so I spliced it, connected it directly to my battery and got the window to go up then disconnected the switch. My guess is its probably a messed up wire thats in the hardest place to get to. Just depends on how much you use the windows.

I am new to this forum and definitely not a "techy" when it comes to my 2002 Mountaineer. I am grateful to those of you who shared remedies to the many electric issues I am experiencing, including windows not going up, door ajar light and all the bells and whistles associated with this, and the alarm going off in the middle of the night each and every hour. Many thanks for the insight and links instructing me on how to search/repair this items myself. I received a quote for $800 just to fix the window issues! So, again, thanks to those of you offering inexpensive solutions!

I had the same problem with my passenger door on my 04. It only goes down, but not up. So instead of duct taping it and putting a plastic bag on it. I just cut the wires to the regulator and switched it around. Now when I press down it goes up
