We have a 2016 Explorer XLT and a problem has just developed. The window washer fluid won't spray out when you push the button. A small amount will come out of each nozzle and no more. The reservoir was empty for a couple of weeks before we refilled it. There doesn't seem to be a leak anywhere. We can hear what I assume is the pump working. Any ideas?

It sounds like you need to bleed out the air out of the system. Have in mind that the water need to travel through a long hose, so fill up the tank and let it run for awhile it should start to work again.

Thanks! How long do you think? I've let it run for quite a while but really don't know how long. I'd guess 30 seconds or so. Do you think longer? Thanks in advance!!

I would say a little longer than 30sec. You should also bleed the rear window washer also. I would run it for a minute or so front and back. Please keep us posted in the out come.

if that doesn't work (what newport suggested) it sounds like you may have a leak in the line and maybe pumping out somewhere. I have seen cracked hoses cause that kinda of problem.

If you see liquid on the floor then you know you have a leak. If not and you have bleed the lines well, then i say it can be a two things.

1- clogged nozzles ( sprayers)
2- Motor pump

I will add one more thing. On the F150's if the reservoir goes dry the screen in the bottom of it get clogged up. I would check that first before bleeding.

Welcome to the Forum.
If you don't get any improvement in the pressure, I would suspect a faulty pump. Just because you can hear it doesn't mean it is working properly. Please keep us updated. Thanks.

Sorry guys. Been really busy. It's still not working. Tried pushing the button for a couple of minutes but it didn't do any good. Still doesn't seem to be leaking. Guess we need to try to clean the screen. It looks like removing the reservoir is going to be a pain. Any tips? Thanks!

Shop Vac. Put a a smaller hose on it and use a clear hose to get to the bottom of the tank.

Check this out; windshield washer pump as well as post #58 in that thread. If that isn't your issue, I still suspect the pump.

Been there done that. If you run the tank dry and don't fill it within a day or so it will gunk up pretty quick. On my Mustang it would have been MAJOR SURGERY to get to the pump so I put about an oz of bleach in a gallon of DISTILLED water and filled the empty tank with that solution. Took the bleach several hours to dissolve the gunk but it worked. After it got down to about 1/2 a tank I added regular wiper fluid.

Well it's finally fixed. Sorry for the delay. We had some damage to the paint from Hurricane Irma. We had the dealer fix that and while it was there we had them look at the sprayer. It was gunked up really bad! They cleaned it out and it is fine now. Thanks for everyone's help.
