I have a 93 XLT and only one of my windows still works. The others have stopped working one by one but I never had reason enough to take the door panels off to mess with it, however last night I ordered four new 6x8's to replace the blown factory speakers so I figure now will be a good time to look at the windows.

I can hear all of the motors turning, the windows simply dont go anywhere, do you think there would be something worn out in the linkage? Is there any common wear parts to lok for first or is it going to be a complete surprise once I get the door panels off?

Any ideas would be appreciated,
DC

I had the same prob with my truck 92X rear windows they have a cable and i guess it comes loose an tangles then the plastic gears stripout. Had to repair both windows ,the shop had to replace the whole assembly it cost me $400 per door they have to break out the rivets to get it out I did not want to mess with it Beyond my skill level well good luck:)

Well...for $400 per door I will live with having to help the windows up by hand!

Speakers should be here next week sometime, I guess I will find out whether they will get fixed or not then.

Thanks for the reply,

Same thing happenned to me. One day I was driving and there was suddenly no window control. I was so irritated about it because the XLT ('92) is my standby ride.

I parked it at home, took off the door "sill" or whatever lines the inside of the driver's side door, and just jiggled everything. Then they all worked. Might be worth doing yourself-its easy to get the liners off, and its free except the time to do it, which isn't much.

No problems since.

ya I was using cardboard for the last 5 years I finally saved up the cash to do it. :)

here is the link to repair your windows.

I did 2 of mine for like $3.00

Dead Link Removed

good luck

Thanks for that link! Its really helpful.

I just finished doing that to three of my windows. I got my bushings from Ace hardware(Lowe's also carries them). Had to slighly modify them, but they work great. New motors-~$75, lift gear repair kit~$25, my repair $2.

I also had a problem with the gas tank. Needle was stuck on empty. After doing a search and reading a bit, I took down the tank and removed the pump/sending unit. After moving the tank far away and airing the unit out, I turned the ignition on, moved the lever and the needle climbed. The $130 unit is good. Removed the float and ..AHHA...full of petro! Call up Ford, $5.28 later I was back in business.

This site is killer. I dont know how much $$$ I have saved over the years doing searches here.
