Got a 2005 Explorer where none of the windows are opening/closing, yet the sunroof works fine. All the fuses appear fine. When you hit the button on the door, it doesn't sound like the window motor is even trying to engage. Is there something else, besides a fuse, that is common to all four windows, but not common to the sun roof?

Try checking the wiring in drivers side door jamb, it's common for wires to break. It sounds like either LT Blu/Blk (the feed wire) or the Blk wire (ground) snap in two. Either of one these would cause none of the windows to work.

Would a bad wire on the drivers door prevent the passenger door switches/button from activating the windows?

I have this same problem. It's gotta be the wire. Until I have time to fix it, I just open my driver's door about half-way and it works fine!

Could also be the switch on the drivers side door. Mine did this and needed to be replaced.

Try pounding on the door under the switch and see if it makes contact to get the window up/down. If so, the switch is your problem.

BigRondo posted some good links that might help you. See his Troubleshooting Power Windows post for more details. Here's another Power Window Not Working issue and as mentioned server times in this post it was a broke wire. These cases were broken ground wire and has updated post from Big Rondo similar to my link above.
Good luck.
