I got in my X today and the floormat is soaked! It's leaking right above where the oil change sticker goes. I looked on the outside where the gutter hits the black rubber thing around the windshield and there is no sealant left like on the other side. How do I fix this?

leaking windshield

I had the same problem on my 91 right above where the mirror is. I just took in to a windshield repair joint and had the windshield removed and new sealant put on. Cost me $50 but I didnt feel like doing it myself.

fix

black silicone.

run on down to autozone or the closest auto parts store and get some permatex black silicone in the tube. clear will work too, but I find black silicone works for everything- sort of like duct tape. :D

just use a flat screwdriver to pry back the black trim on the windshield where the leak is, and use the plastic tip on the silicone tube to squirt it all in and around. Be sure to do this in warm or moderate weather so it has time to set. I also put silicone around the edge of the trim so the rain/snow wouldnt get into the trim to start with. Have fun!

i had a windsheild leak from that place for about a year. I tried sealing it myself and even sent and paid $140 for the delaer to seal it. neither one worked. i mean it would stop for a few months, but would always come back. It ends up the lip the windsheild sea,s to started to rust and the rust spread all across the top of the windsheild. The windsheild place says I need to have the entire lip sandblasted and repainted. If I were you, I would get the windsheild removed and replaced if sealing it yourself doesn;t work. Every windsheild place around here has a lifetime warentee against leaks if they replace the glass also....that is only as long as there is no rust up there. beofre you put any money into just having a place reseal it, look into just getting new glass. for me it was $140 for a reseal job and it only lasted 2 months. the new glass was $260 installed. and it doesn;t leak anymore. I still have to get the lip sandblasted this summer, but if you catch it early you should be ok.

Well, we bought the windshield in Salt Lake City, and have since moved to Seattle. So I don't know how I'll get warranty work done. I'll try and seal it myself. Thanks guys.

I take it the windsheild place was not a national chain? if it was you can have the work done anywhere.
