Wiper cowl importance to A/C?

I've been toying with the idea of making a smooth wiper cowl for my truck, replacing the current cowl which has all the vents and windshield pissers.

How important are those vents in the cowl to the A/C system? What exactly do they do? If worse comes to worse, I could integrate vents into the new wiper cowl, but I don't want to if I don't have to.

those vents are where the system gets its input air..... seal those up and a/c output and heater output will be very low
