So I bought a new truck and it came with a pioneer. I have done some minor installs before (installed this very alpine into a 97 sport), figuring this would be a easy one swap for my alpine I pulled the unit. First inspection made me worried, since 3 wires were cut from the factory connector (looked and they are the ground (black/green stripe), battery (yellow/purple stripe), and ACC (green/purple stripe). Now I cut them from the shody pioneer connector and connected them back stock connector (harness I would assume). At some point 2 wires touched there was a few little sparks and smoke. It has now started to rain (lovely florida) and I have found the fuses I need to check 28 + 29. But the unit did not turn on, so if it is not the fuses. Where do I go from here? Also there are quite a few cut and re-connected to the black portion of the the harness. Any input is appreciated.

dude if you had your alpine connected when the leads touched its quite possible your alpine is fried, alpines are sensitive to that.

i had the exact same thing happen to me, was playing around with an alpine in my bedroom and a battery and speakers and my cat jumped up on the table and between it and me the leads touched and no more alpine.
