Wiring Question for installing gauge

First off, if in wrong thread, please move it, lol.

Never had to install a gauge getting ready to install my first one :D however, first step says to connect power wire to a 12v non constant wire (when ignition is on, its on, ignition off it is off) then connec...........

What would be the best wire for this? (location and color)

the best one would be the radios power wire. its hooked into the ignition
 












where is the guage going? Lots of guys grab the radio wire as it makes sense that it is only on when the engine is on. If you wanted to tap into your existing guage wiring and even have the dimmer feature on your gauges read up on this thread for my gauge install.

The gauge is for my aux tranny filter, the gauge its self will go onto my ext console near the ashtray. it has a wire for dimmer option, says tap into the headlight circuit (connect purple wire to headlight circuit, so when the head lights are on, the dimming feature on your gauge turns on, the.....)
