since I've never seen that crossmember up close and IZ ate too many skittles for lunch I would say this.

It's probably like a 2"x8" rectangular stock, it has the suspension tabs with steel plate reinforcing those areas. 3/16 would be good, 1/4" would be beefy, heavy and overkill.

I have a 3/16" bumper that I have managed to wad up from dragging over rocks so I would make an educated guess in saying that cutting out a 3" hole and welding in a 3" wide section of tube in place will reinforce the crossmember from the abuse of bouncing your truck on rocks.

Just do the 2.5 inch roadbully lift and throw away your sway bars. You'll get all sorts of flex. Look at this! I bet i would pull a good 250 on an RTI ramp...
I went out today with no sway bars and a 3 inch front, 2.5 inch rear lift. This truck simply will not flex. And as far as the aftermarket following goes, it's massive popularity actually doesn't help it. Take Uhaul for example. You can get a hitch put on a mounty, but not an explorer. Why? cause there are so many explorers out there. Say 2% of all trucks will be involved in an accident, and the owners will sue the manufacturers of aftermarket stuff on their truck, saying it caused the accident. Well, 2% of Explorers out numbers almost all Xterras. It is too much of a liability for manufacturers to make stuff for such a popular vehicle that can effect handling. In my opinion. I've owned 3 explorers, and 2 rangers. These 3rd gens officially blow off road.

Sorry... your argument holds no water... aftermarket companies are here to make money and would not mass produce a product they feel there is no market for (IE FORD EXPLORERS). RIZE's lift kits are thousands of dollars. All the trucks that they produce lift kits for start in the high 30's. A $4,000 lift kit on a $20,000 car doesn't make much sense (AND WOULD NOT SELL)....

3 inch spacers suck nothing but problems
