Hey guys and gals,
I turn to you once again... today my truck started acting up. You know how when you let off the brake while you're in gear and the truck starts to drift slowly? Well something seems to be sticking, when I let off the gas (in drive or reverse), the truck doesn't go anywhere. I have to give it some gas first, and with some friction, it will finally "give" and let me start driving. After this initial problem starting off, everything shifts and works fine.

A couple months ago I had this problem, with a few exceptions... it only happened in reverse and it only happened three or four random times. Since then the transmission has been rebuilt and I haven't had any problems...until today :-(

I'm sure this is a pretty typical problem. Anyone have a verdict as to where exactly the problem is?

Thank you.

Matt

Did you check your fluid level?? Low fluid will produce that result.

That problem

is usually associated with the low/reverse servo and band. As the name implies, this band is used in first and reverse. All A4LD transmissions have an O ring that leaks as it ages and this band needs a lot of pressure, this is the largest piston in the transmission. Any rebuild kit after 97 probably included a redesigned double lip seal. View this on www.atcdg.com click on tech and look for A4LD. If this "rebuild" was recent and it was a rebuild, I doubt that would be the problem. Broken band wouldn't be intermitant. Other possibility could be low pressure from a valve body problem.

I've checked the transmission fluid and its normal.

Since my first post, this "friction" while moving from a stop hasn't happened at all. But its weird because that day it did happen, it would get stuck everytime i stopped, it wasnt just one time and that was it. But...the next time i drove it (and ever since) it hasnt been giving me any problems...

any ideas? obviously something is wrong, its just intermittent.

Have you checked your RPMs at idle? It may just be something simple like your RPMs being too low at idle.

Actually the idle is sorta low (100-200rpms lower than norm)... I never really related the two. But the idle's always a little bit low, and this problem has only ever happened like 4 times? What do you think
