I have a '94 Explorer XLT V6 4.0. With about 200K miles on it. My problem is it will not stay running, it gets really low RPMs, and the only way to keep it running is keep my foot on the gas. So, if I am at a stop light, I have to have one foot on the brake, one on the gas.

When I got my oil changed today, the guy there said something about a vacuum seal leak. Or something like that. I'm sorry I am not very technical with vehicles.

Does anyone know why this may happen, how to fix it, and how much it might cost to fix.

is your check engine light on? if so, bring it to a mechanic and have them use a diagnostic scanner on it to find out what the problem is. have them write down the code so you can research it online and find out what the problem is with the car. it would be a good idea to just let them fix the problem if you're not too familiar with cars.

i have a similar problem with my '94. i've been told that it could be related to fuel pressure, bad vacuum lines, or cylinder misfires. we can't figure out exactly what's wrong with it. it sucks. but if i get the problem fixed, i'll be sure to let you know what it was so hopefully you can use it to fix yours.

Your symptoms could easily be caused by a vacuum leak. There are numerous possible places for a vacuum leak to occur. What "vacuum seal" did the technician who changed your oil say was leaking? Can you get under the hood and search for the vacuum leak yourself (look for a misplaced rubber/plastic hose maybe)?

Every now and again when my 94 backfires, while starting, it pops off a vacuum line at the little tree looking thing by the master cylinder. Then the symptom is low idle and stalling. I'd stat there. It has about 5 lines and, or caps on it. I would start there. Maybe you could plug each one untill it runs fine then you would know hwere to start looking? If that is fine, then tring spaying some Intake cleaner around the manifold and listen for a rise in RPM's or if it stalls, thjis would also let youknow where to look.

As already stated, start by looking at the vacuum tree on drivers side near the firewall.

Oil change????

CHECK TO SEE IF YOUR PCV VALUE IS STILL CONNECTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, If its old, replace it
