I've just put new seals in all the brake calipers and thought it would be a good time to look at the handbrake.
I removed all the shoes and springs and found the actuating lever completly seized on the left and stiff on the right.
I seem to be sandblasting everything these days to ged rid of all the crud so the levers had the same treatment.
With plenty of copper grease, I reassembled them. I put the handbrake lever up 2 clicks and did up the adjusters till the wheels were locked.
I can now go at about 10mph, the handbrake lever comes up 6 clicks, and both wheels lock and skid.
What an improvement!!!
I know alot of members have said their handbrake is crap and I was looking at altering the system to make it work better.
But there is basically nothing wrong with it and it just needs a good service.
Hope this helps someone.
