ok so i wanna know if anyone here has noticed a diffrence in the way the exsploder handles in the snow and rain after its been lifted and has 31s on it.. mine is great in weather now, but i want a set of 31s and possibly a tt/shackle lift, but i wanna know if im going to loose the greatness in bad weather conditions?

I actually feel better because my tires are better than I had when I was stock. The only difference will be the tires really, a decent set of tires will really help in the rain and snow.

Dan

Mine handles better in snow now, not because of the tire size, but because the tires are better.

But as always with a lift, even with just a tt/shackle lift, your going to be higher so make sure you get used to be even higher up before you drive like you did before the lift...

Safety first

tires

Buy the best tires you can afford. If you're looking for all weather traction, you'll want an A/T tire. I highly recommend Goodyear Silent Armors.

well my tires right now are extra crappy.. no tread at all and all of them have plugs in the sidewall.. but i have the auto 4wd which is why i think its so good in the snow and rain.. i just wanna make sure that 31s arent too big.. like when u plow u want skinny tires... so i didnt know if 31s made much of a diffrence.. as for the height thing.. thats no issue, my bf has a ram 1500 with 6in and 33s that i drive frequently.... so im used to the height factor... i just wanted to know about the handling of the tires basically... so everyoe agrees that its gotten better with 31s?

How long have you been running the silent armours? Right now I'm between those and bridgestone duelers

does anyone who had mud terrains on feel like they have better or same traction.. or do mud terrains make it worse.. cuz im most likeley gonna get dakota definitys which are mud terrains.. cuz they are a good cheap tire and thats what i can afford right now

tires

To the OP, any new tires will feel/sound a lot better than what you describe.

I'm very happy with the Silent Armors. I have about 400 miles on them. I put pics up tonight when I get home but search too 'cause others here are running these tires.

I went to firestone and looked at both the Destination A/T and Revos in the Firestone showroom. For me, it was between the Destinations and the Silent Armors. I never considered the Revos because of their online reputation of wearing quickly. Firestone retailer confirmed that Revos are made of a soft rubber layer over a hard rubber layer. So it wears very quickly in the first 10,000 miles. I like even tire wear. Both the Revo and the SilentArmor are the best A/T for their respective company so I'm sure you cant go wrong with either. But for me, I liked the construction of the SilentArmor of two steel bands and Kevlar threading. Prices were comparable, but the Destination A/T would have been the cheapest of the three.

I feel the handling improved when I went to 31's. As said before, when you lift.. you will have to keep that in mind when you're screwin around n whatnot.

But overall, I feel the truck handles a lot better with these bigger tires. It's also nice pulling up to another explorer and being slightly higher... they're like... wtf?..

Haha.. Have fun.

M/t

M/T seems aggressive for a daily driver plus they're weak on wet pavement. I think you'd be happier with A/T.

I agree.

my mud terrains get awesome grip in the rain, i'd even go so far as to say they handle better than when i had 31" yokohama all terrains

if your woried about wet traction theres alot better option than the bfg muds. they do alright in wet weather, but just alright

Honestly, if this is your daily driver.. I wouldn't use muds at all. Not unless this was a trail only rig.

A/T is your best bet for on/off road traction.

definity mts

thes tires are awsum espesally for the price thay get good wet and snow traction i have hade a set on my jeep and now have them on my 98 mounty you cant go wrong

MTR's

I've had Goodyear Wrangler MTR's on my X for 2 years now and they are the best tires I've ever had. I worked for two local tire & service centers and have had extensive training from Goodyear. That being said, I take more care of my tires than I do myself (hey, tires are expensive - my bro never rotates or balances his tires and goes thru a set each year).

I bought the MT/R's because of the kevlar sidewall and aggressiveness of the tread. I have no regrets except that I rarely go off road anymore - but I do live in a snowbelt in Michigan and see alot of snow. I drive 90 miles a day back and forth to work mostly highway. Wasted money on MT/R's? not really. I rotate and balance every 4000 miles - religiously. Your tires will last forever if you do that. I've got 40K on these tires with 3/4 tread left on them. No lie. Best snow and rain tire that I've ever witnessed.

The cons to MT/R's: Loud. Verrrrry loud. These tires grip EVERYTHING! Pavement, dirt, mud, and rocks. Don't hang your arm out the window when travelling a gravel road.

My only problem with these tires are the fact that I drive 90% highway and these tires deserve better. My next set of tires will be the silent armors only because of my driving conditions... maybe. We'll see.

BTW: if you do decide on MT's, go to a local Disount Tire and have them "siped". It'll cost about $40 but that will help on the wet pavement. I will be doing that next rotation, myself.

i never plan on getting bfg mt i just dont like those tires at all.. if i got bfg it would definitly be the a/t

i do alot of highway driving too..... but it dont matter to me except in the rain and snow...

what does "siped" mean

cutting into the tread blocks for increased traction

that wont make it dry rot or pull apart.. and will it help traction in the mud or make that worse and the snow
