I was just wondering what the negative effects (if any) are when you put the petal to the metal. I like to do this once and awhile, usually when merging onto the highway or if a ricer start revving at me. Could this cause a possible pre-mature engine failure or anything like that? Thanks for any replies.

Driving a car cuases premature engine failure... if you abuse it you will break something... i threw a connecting rod in my yota from beating the crap out of it and always driving WOT! however now and then isnt going to hurt it.....

Actually it can be good, I read somewhere that it's suggested that you quickly accelerate to over 3k rpm and burn/break off carbon deposits :D

Runing the vehicle at WOT won't hurt anything, unless you do it for an extended period of time. Think of a race car engine. They may only be run for 500 miles, but that 500 miles (typically at WOT) is equal to 100K plus miles on a street engine.

And yes, occasionally hammering on the motor is beneficial.

if you don't have the proper oil levels or anything of that nature then of course it would be bad also

I hate to state the obvious but of course make sure your engine is all warmed up before flooring it. When I floor mine which is once in a blue moon, I kind of feel guilty afterwards. I'm thinking if I had a part that is about to break soon, I just made it to break sooner. :D

I kind of feel guilty afterwards.

Me too. ;-)

Thanks for the replies. I never accelerate fast or floor it until my engine is completly warmed up. Also my engine is well maintained. I usually do a nice WOT once a week, imo i think the sohc is pretty quick from my few vechicle experieces. The only other car around 205 HP that i've drove is my moms grand prix gt, which seems to pull the same as my x. So i guess if something is going to happen to my engine its going to happen. It will be just another reason to do a v8 swap:D
