When I put my car in reverse it sometimes makes a clunk sound. Sometimes when I take off from a stop you can hear the clunk again right around the time the gears change from 1st to 2nd. Could bad U-joints cause this? Could they also be causing the binding sound where the front and rear driveshafts come out of the tranny? My truck drives fine and has no problem shifting or slipping gears, the fluid is full and red. I have to find out what is causing all these noises under the car.

The u-joints in my 94 4wd Explorer used to creak and clunk. It had 100k miles. Noise went away when I replaced rear driveshaft.
