I've seen a couple of X's on here with a wrangler-esque spare tire holder. Unless I'm mistaken, it is part of the back bumper, and has a swing away design? I'll try and find a pic of what I'm talking about.

Anyways, I was wondering whether I could buy one of these, of I'd have to custom build it myself. Looking on getting one put on in the future.

Most everybody just custom builds there own since there none commercially available.

Although Boominexplorer did figured out that certain TJ front bumpers will fit with modifications.

So anything is posibble. Just depends on how creative you want to get.

Spare Tire swing arm

Hey, I saw that you said that someone knew how to modify a swing arm for an explorer... I have a 2005 and have been throwing ideas around about how to keep the existing bumper on but drill a hole/square to where the arm would connect to the frame. I havent taken off the bumper yet to see what im workin with but I thought id see if anyone had any tips first before I start tearin apart.

Thanks!

:)My 91 X had a swing arm tire holder i bought from Jeep. A little cutting, welding, sawing, :censored:, :censored: and i was able to do it. I will search though my pics of my ex and see if i have any of the build. It was almost 9 years ago so there is a possibility that i have none. I recomend buying a roof rack and mounting your tire up on the roof, easier, and less :censored:

Start from scratch if you really want a rear mount tire holder, don't modify one to fit the ex, let the creative juices flow and build your own:cool:

Totally what I figured but thats my style. I want it to look awwweesome and I know it will be harder work then the tire on top and Im not a fan of it, soooo I am gonna research it to find out how the hell to do it! I have a jeep model that I can stare at and reconfigure. Its just that an old jeep that doesnt have a computer monitoring everything you touch and their are not sensors that can go wrong and ****. I already looked up someones post on how to take the rear bumper off and even that involves unscrewing and unhooking precious electrical wires. I dont have any problem trying unhooking a few things, I hooked up a CB/PA in there but that wasnt necessarily unhooking an actual wire connected into the car. I just wanna find some damn pictures of someones attempt!

Sorry bro, i have never taken the bumper off my ex

As for a suggestion, try searching for cb antenna installs, you might find one with pics of a bumper removal:D
