Issues:

1. Our phones would kept disconnecting from the Sync system. Despite multiple dealership visits and resets, it's still doing it. Tried fuse 29, tried turning 911 assist off, tried turning automatic phonebook download off.

2. Added a personal code for keyless entry and tried deleting via instructions from the driver's manual and tried to delete through the MyFordTouch, this problem eventually got fixed through a dealer reset. They informed me not to add any personal codes and there's something wrong with the feature at the moment.

3. Tried to play video on the MyFordTouch system but it would not detect the vehicle in park so it just pops up a message saying that the car must be parked which it is. About to notify the dealership right now about this problem.

4. Lock problem where the wiring harness for the power lock was not properly installed and as a result, it was damaged. This only affected the rear passenger door and it was fixed by the dealership.

5. Now we have to go in AGAIN for the 4th time just because the driver's side passenger door would not open from the inside. We have to bring it into the dealership again.

Does anyone know any solutions to any of these problems that can be done?

Really... Is this the quality I'm supposed to expect from Ford? I'm sure there's software problems but all these mechanical problems already? One problem or two problems is enough, but having to go to the dealership for MULTIPLE problems for a brand new 38k vehicle... That just ticks me off. With things breaking within less than a month of the purchase, we are about to give up. Am I able to return the vehicle for all my money back?

Also, to those of you who are planning to purchase this vehicle or have this vehicle, it is a great vehicle. Wonderful features and they need to tweak it out. I'm just disappointed how my vehicle turned out to have all these mechanical problems and it's probably just the one I got.

I think we already established you had an early build in another thread. This could or could not be the source of all your problems. For now, let's assume not. Last I checked, all states had lemon laws. Might want to check it out but it's my vague understanding that it has to have remotely-serious engine problems, not just odds and ends. I could be (and hope I am) wrong on this.

Draper hasn't had any MFT problems on his XLT so far. He was able to get at least one of his phones working by not auto-importing the contacts.

There was a lady on the facebook page that had crappy radio reception. She took it into the dealership to find out the antenna was never installed at the factory. This was a good month ago so it was also most likely an early build.

Ford has all kinds of bulletins for mytouch concerns right now.

Ask your local Ford dealer about this - mention that you are dissatisfied with the quality. Also, Ford has a presence on ExplorerForum so maybe you can reply to the thread below or PM the user "FordCustSrvc" to discuss what you options are after a few weeks of owning the vehicle:

Wow!! ..I think I'd be barking about a lemon law return and replacement with all the stuff you're going through. To me that would be unacceptable. Each state has slightly different lemon laws, so you might want to look yours up to see if it qualifies. I'm pretty sure it would here in PA.

Knock on wood, the only problem I've had so far is getting my phone to talk to the Sync system, but I figured that out and it hasn't given me any problems since.

Both of our phones and Sync are now talking to each other. After I figured out how to do it the first time, the second phone breezed right through.

Thank you for the link. I tried to contact him. I hope it works. I have checked up on the lemon law and I'm about to go to the dealership tomorrow to talk it out. I hope I'm not complaining or anything. Some guy totally put me out there on the facebook so I figured I should just put stuff here.

I think you have every right to be upset about what has happened to your vehicle. To put out that kind of money and have those problems is unacceptable in my book.

Hi All:
This is my first post on the forum, so hello to everyone!

I bought a 2011 explorer limited about a month ago and I have to say that I love everything about its ride, sound system, handling and steering. Unfortunately, I have to say that its navigation system and sync features leave much to be desired. The dealer has been extremely responsive and done what they can, but there are so many bugs in the software that I'm afraid its going to take quite a while for it to perform up to expectations.

For example, it takes 2-5 minutes for everything, including the nav system, to be up and running after start, including being able to use voice commands. Also, I've had 5+ 'SD Card faults', which cause me to have to pull over, turn off and restart the car (kind of like rebooting a microsoft PC, huh?) or even pop out the sd card and re-insert it for it to work. Also, if the sound system is off, and I receive a phone call, when the call is over, the sound system comes on all by itself. Additionally, the on/off button for the sound system doesn't always work or it can be off or on, but show the opposite on the small LCD screen from the main display. Finally, I also cannot get the video to work, even if I'm in park.

Really thinking I should have followed the old advice of never buying a first year model, but even so, with all the problems, I have to say I enjoy driving it every day. I've taken it to Yosemite in the snow and off-road on some moderately steep/windy dirt roads and it's performed flawlessly in the various 4x4 modes. Oh, and I absolutely LOVE the active assist cruise control! It performs exactly as advertised and makes being in cruise control 1000% better than normal cruise control.

Thanks!

Gary

We have had some small problems so far the rear cupholder broke on the test drive, they ordered that and was replaced. Now the drivers side cooling fan is squealing and it was on backorder and will be replaced sometime. The sync has shut off only 3 times so far will get that updated with the fans. the worst thing so far is the 12-13 mpg we have been getting that isn't really acceptable so far it better improve soon as the price iS hard to keep up with. Our last 6 cylinder wasn't any better but this one should be much better I would think.....

Jamus...you kind of put yourself "out there" on the FB page.
From the day your dad brought the Explorer home you have complained..and didn't even seem to know what your dad purchased on the vehicle. Not to mention you have several
threads on here about changing everything in the truck, wheels, rims, engine, audio system....
Everyone should be able to ask questions & get answers.

In this day & age of information overload, there should be no excuse for not knowing what you are getting with your specific vehicle.
As I recall you took delivery in Feb...and have an early vin #..and have asked the same questions over & over. Have you actually had your father take the vehicle in & told the service manager your laundry list?

Also, we seem to hear a lot of stories where the Ford service guys/tech guys at the dealerships throw up their hands, shake their head and say something like, "yeah, there have been lots of repors abou this, seems to be a Sync/MFT/computer issue and there's no fix right now...just to wait." I think a lot of that is dealer BS because they haven't been educated/trained enough on some of the new features of the Explorer so they just default to that refrain to pacify you for now. The problem? It creates the impression that there are widespread problems with aspects of the vehicle and no one knows how to fix them. In other words, Ford sucks and don't buy this vehicle and don't recommend it to any of your friends. The dealer/manufacturer relationship is tenuous at best, but when the dealers get defensive and blame "corporate" for everything and anything it gets really toxic...and frankly in those cases Ford would be beter off to jettison that dealer completely.

Thanks for your honest comment Jackey. The only thing I did not know about the vehicle and kind of ranted on was about the Nav and questioned why it can't be added aftermarket. From the threads above and other threads, I just wanted to ask what these issues are and try to learn why it's happening so I can get the best fix. I have had bad repair experiences in the past and I would like to avoid that by asking here and getting info. I don't think broken/not working things in the vehicle count as not knowing what's on the vehicle as well. As for the other threads where I want to change some stuff to my preference. It's just something I would like to do to the vehicle so it can do some other things. And yes, it's my dad's vehicle but because he doesn't understand English, he wants me to research as much as possible on the vehicle because he loves this car so much and wants to maintain it in tip top shape. I don't mean to complain as to hate on the Ford Explorer name, I just have questions, just like anyone else would. And probably being as young and unprofessional as I am, I guess I do make comments people don't like and I apologize for that. I just want to learn is all, maturing wise and Explorer wise. Thanks for your honesty =)

Jamus..nothing wrong with asking...but remember to LISTEN to the answers given. And sometimes people will ask for more info from you, to better understand the problem.
Not easy on these forums to actually fully diagnose a problem...unless it is is a very simple one.
If you are not comfortable with the purchase dealer, take your list to another.
Good luck.

is your sync, disconnecting with android custom roms phones?

I don't want to start something to get flamed here, but I read this post twice and don't see where you signed on to your SYNC account and went thru the download, memory stick upload to your Explorer, then back to Ford to confirm. This does wonders to its operation. Everything works quicker and each time there are new functions. I'm starting to think that a lot of New Explorer owners weren't told or don't realize the level of knowledge required to operate the SYNC/MFT interfaces. This is not a negative; it's the future.
Communicating with Ford online at SYNCmyride isn't optional, and learning how to get all the benefits from this stuff requires hours and evenings, in my case, to become proficient. Just trying to understand what's going on here.

Also, each time you do an upload to your Explorer you must uninstall your current SYNC/bluetooth pairing on your phone. Then re-pair. Everything improves when you do this.

Yep, I went on the syncmyride.com before all these issues and uploaded the status/version checker the day I got my Ex. After the APIM replacement, I repaired my phone and it worked.

By the way, can a moderator lock this thread, all these issues have been repaired. Thank you!
