Find out how much the buyback on it is from the insurance co...considering they will sell it to a scrap yard for $500...if you could buy it back for $1500 or less you could make some good money on it. The majority of the money being in the drivetrain, rearend, electrics and interior of course. Pretty easy to part out the main components if you don't really want to get into things. Hell, I just sold my stock rims and tires for $400 on Craigslist to someone with a 3rd gen that just didn't want to pay $700 for new tires...

Just think about it :)

I agree buy it back and start tearing it down. Then just call a junk yard most of them will pick it up for free

having trouble finding another explorer that i like... i know they are all the same in a sense, but i really like the " SUNFIRE RED " color on an explorer... there are out there, but not to many in my local area... i knew of 2 other red explorers near me... plus if i were to get another X it would be V8 without question...

but i do like the rangers, and i found a nice CHARCOAL 05 RANGER 4.0 4x4... my good friend has a BLUE 05 RANGER, and its a blast to drive in snow, and light trails... much better off road, but that staement is totally one sided cause 2 completely seperate vehicles lol...

i will keep this updated when i get a new vehicle... hope fully within the next 2 weeks i will have something new...

just wanted to update my status on finding a new vehicle...

first let me say i am going to get another EXPLORER...

even though there are alot of other vehicles that i would love, my X was very capable in everything i needed it to do... I.E.

4x4, travel with friends, my audio system, and just a practical vehicle in general...

looking into 04'-05' XLT's... found some really nice V6's that are within a 15 mile range of my house. and a V8 about 25 miles away...

Hopefully i will have a new explorer by Tuesday

nice man good to hear we aren't gonna lose you. keep us updated and get pics up asap of the new ex

The V6 is a very capable engine...don't rule it out just because it isn't a V8 :) My V6 pushes around my 33's just fine actually. The 4.0 is a proven reliable engine that Ford has used for a very long time...the block is even used in some Baja applications

i agree its a good engine...

i would get the V8 only cause i would love the extra power, plus it would sound mean lol hahaha

ill prob end up getting a v6 cause i dont really wanna have to drive 100 miles in 2 round trips, cause when i bought my X it took about 2 days to finalize everything...

just curious, is there any intakes out there for the 04-05 v6 other than KKM ?

search but havent found much ? anyone with a KKM could you post whether its worth buying or just do the AIR BOX MOD ?

no i havent had the chance... but i bet the response is similar to the medic car i drive at work once in a while... its a 05 expedition

Actually, I raced a newer Expedition(on a closed course;)) and from a 55mph roll, I could just BARELY pull him. This was before the efan and tuner. From 55mph to 105mph I would pull maybe half a car length. Never got a chance to go from a dig and I bet it would have been worse because my Ex is pretty quick off the line.

Make sure you take a V8 for a test drive to make sure it's what it should be. I have never ridden in a 3rd gen with a V6, and if it's anything like my mom's 96 4.0 was, then you'll love the V8. If you really want to step up, work a few more weeks and search around for a Lincoln Aviator:D

The V8 is definitely worth the drive!!!!:D

whats the avg MPG factory ? any ideas ?

considering all different options...

I can get close to 18mpg on the highway if I drive the speed limit. I am getting around 13mpg in town now, but I have a heavy foot:D I really need new tires and an alignment because I never did that when I put the new rims on. Plus when summer hits, fuel blends will be better and should help a hair too.

I am averaging about 19mpg highway if I drive the speed limit and about 14-15mpg city depending on my driving.

on my 02 driving from NJ to NC I was able to get 22 going down and 21 coming up. around town I was getting anywhere from 12-14 in the winter and 15-16 in the summer, I also had a heavy foot. The V8 is definatly worth taking a look at.

found an explorer that i really like alot thats about 15 miles from me...

http://www.cars.com/go/search/detai...aId=338647400&tracktype=usedcc&aff=national#0

the mileage is not bad at all, sun roof, full roof rack, painted bumpers, fog lights... stuff my XLS didnt have

if i get it here are the plans i have for this particular explorer...

1. install my stereo from the red explorer...

2. tint front windows to match factory rear

3. tinted tails

4. black head light housings or tinted head lights

5. black painted rims

6. 6000k or 8000k HIDS

7. exhaust ( 50 / 70 series ) catback exhaust

8. air box mod w/ K&N filter or KKM intake

those are my projected plans...
