Hi.

I just took delivery on a 2000 XLT with the 160 HP engine. The engine will suit my needs (no towing or offroading) as a family vehicle, but I am interested in learning about what can be done to coax a bit more ummph out of the engine. I have seen a few posts on computer chips that can be used, but I am not very technical when it comes to such things. Any feedback or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

I would try a K&N filter. Thjey don't make HUGE differences, but I think it will help the engine. It did for me anyway!

I personaly own a 92, so I am not sure if they have all the parts I am going to list but these are what will get you the biggest gains headers, high flow exaust, kkm intake or similar, power chip, super charger. The following will give you less increase but still some Mass air flow sensors, drilling holes in the bottom of your air intake, new spark plug wires, new spark plugs, and new ignition. That is about all I know of.

I would have to suggest getting a K&N filter and drilling out your airbox. That's probably one of the cheapest mods available. Other mods that help a lot are a cat-back exhaust and from what I've heard Bosch Platinum +4 plugs and duel-core wires. I'm putting Borla headers and a cat-back exhaust on my 96 Sport 4.0L OHV, I'll tell you how much they help when I recieve them and put them on.
