Yet another T-Cases to mount to the V8 Thread

I picked up a rebuilt one on ebay for 100 bucks. Let me go outside and take some pictures now.

Great pics, thanks! A lot better then the ones I snooped off ebay.

When you had the t-case installed, where did the front driveshaft yoke pop out? Are we going to be OK here?

100 bucks for a rebuilt, cleaned up case? DAMN! Rebuild kits are going for around 130ish. I would think a junkyard case might be in the $200 range.

Well, see, the catch is, there's something inside that's rattling, so i'm going to rip it apart and check it all out.
If I remember correctly, there is no way the front output could clear the crossmember unless it was clocked somehow or the jeep 208 is short enough so it'll clear it or we could clock the jeep 208 to make it work. That's why I was looking at the 205. only 1.98:1 but at least it's bullet proof.

Hrmm....

Well there is the 5/16" thick re-clocking ring availible. Was the yoke pointing right at the crossmember? Or below it? If the case is rotated up, will it hit the body?

From that guy's cardomain site, apparently when the ford 31spline input is placed into the Jeep 208, about 1" of spacer needs to be sandwiched between the transmission and the case. Plently of room for a reclocking ring.

I don't know about the 205, mostly beacuse of its weight. Its a heavy beast.

Well, i've got a body lift, so If I did turn it up, it might work. I'm trying to get my hands on a jeep 208 to get that to work, if not i'll go get myself an np205 and live with the poor low, at least I can twin stick it!

I still have both cases. I will try to get a new picture in a few days. The 4406 really is MUCH larger!

The problem I found with the 1356 (or was it the NP208?) was the centerline spacing between the input and front output shafts. It is about 1" larger than the 4406. The 4406 front shaft barely squeeks by the torsion bar cross member, so I don't think it will work.

I have thought about the old Dana, but never found one cheap enough to add to my Pile-O-Cases (4404, 4405, & 4406).

My latest project is to try and fit a Viper T-56 to an Atlas an be done with it! Only problem is the damned Viper box i got is a 30T output and I have not found a tcase with 30T input. The case mod to bolt the transfer on will be easy enough, as I will use a corvette rear case and make a simple adaptor. The shaft conversion is the tricky part.

I will follow along on this and try to get some more pictures for you guys. What we really need is an adaptor to convert the slip yoke from the 4406 to a fixed yoke. I have never seen it, but looking at the case, it seems like BW was considering the option. Anyone have a machine shop in their garage?

Anyone find out more info over the weekend?

Subscribing as my awd case died last night and I need to do something else instead of awd. Good work guys! Good info and keep it up!

Any new info? I'm getting itchy. Went camping/wheeling last friday night and was almost totally screwed without 4-low. I was going down a steep hill and 1/2 of one side of the trail had a about a foot high drop. Started going into it and leaned WAY to much. Tried reverse and the engine just stalled up to 2300rpms and I didn't move! Ended up saying a "hail mary" and went through it scraping the hell out of the running boards and skid plates. (good thing they work!)

I have a line on a 208 from an early 80's F-250 with a C6. Do I want it? Or do I want Jeep? What do I want?! :D

Section - you want it. Even if you use the housing from the jeep case, you will ned the input shaft and the shifter from the ford 208.

The C6 has the same spline count and bolt patern as the 4r70w.

Nitrous - no new info, been really busy with work and low on mod funds. The way I see it, this t-case swap will cost at least $500, with driveshaft mods and all.

Okay.. its a 205.. not a 208. Do I still want it? It's cheeeap.

If its cheap, and you're willing to experiment, go for it. Warform thinks the 205 might just work.
1)The 205 was offered in both married and divorced options, we can ONLY use the married verison.
2) The 205 only has a 1.98:1 low range. Oh well, still a low.
3) the 205 is a gear driven, cast iron case. its HEAVY.
4) It might need a crossmember to be fabbed up, to hold its weight.

I say go for it, and see how it does.

The guy only wants $40.. but I'd have to get it shipped.

The case came out of an early 80's F250 with a 460 and C6. It's a
fixed yoke rear shaft

$40 and it's yours. If you need it shipped I can arrange that but you'd
need to pay for the shipping.

Married or divorced?? Will this guy know if I ask him?

How much would shipping be? Its your call... How adventurous are you? Can you resell it if it doesn't work? I have a feeling the 205 will require WAY more fab work than the 208 to support all that weight. Personally, I would try the 205 only as a last resort, unless I got the case, working, to my house for $50. That way I could resell it if it didn't work or the fab was too much.

He says it has a fixed rear yoke. Excellent. An easy way to tell if it is married or divorced is the front: two yokes is divorced, one yoke, offset (for the front shaft) is married.

Some photos for everyone's education:

Here is a shot of a Divorced NP205:

Notice the three fixed yokes, and the crossmember mounting holes.

Here is a shot of a Married NP205 and a C6, from 79 F150.

Notice the "L" bracket on the side of the 205... Dunno what to make of it, in terms of adapting it to our small frame.

Also, all of these cases have fixed yokes for the front and rear drive shafts. This should make driveshaft mods easier than slip yokes.

The shipping on the 205 would be pretty high, it's VERY VERY VERY heavy. Another thing with the 205, you'll have to notch your transfer case adapter to have room for the shifter and the shift rails.
I'm having a hell of a time finding a jeep 208 online, I haven't hit any junk yards though.
