You're telling me that "Sugar" and "Spiders" weren't mainstream?
I didn't see either video on MTV, but then, I'm sure they had one, I just don't watch MTV. Tell me the last time you watched MTV and actually saw ANY music video....
They were mainstream. Everyone knew who there were. And I couldn't turn on the radio for awhile without hearing "sugar."
Mainstream doesn't ruin everything. Think about it, if bands weren't good, they wouldn't be mainstream. They're mainstream because they have a sound that appeals to a lot of people. It doesn't make them bad. It doesn't make the "underground bands" any better. I listen to both. It's all music.
Not as many people you think have heard of them before. It might seem that way because the people you know are into that kind of music. It wasn't until this album that people are freaking out over them. The majority of the people raving about them don't even have their first album. I only say this because it's what I see and I ask people these questions because it bothers me to see good bands turned into the latest cool t-shirt to wear.

Believe me, I know what mainstream is. They were mainstream. Most of the people I knew when they were released were into blues and didn't even know about them. But every radio station I listened to played them all the time. Same stations that played Limp Bizkit, Staind, etc. Also, they had a video on MTV...Sugar, AND Spiders.

How does a band become ruined from mainstream??? Money, Popularity, exposure? Sounds pretty bad to me!
Anyone i know that was or is in a band would give anything to be herd. And if i was in a band i would hope that someone would wear my t-shirt, not only for exposure but for royalties as well.
Not all bands feel that way.
Mainstream promotes fad....
People are supposed to like the music for what it is and not because "it's the cool stuff to listen to"
I can't count how many times I've been to a show and how many people only know the song that's played on the radio.
As for SOAD.......they are a different kind of band and express different kinds of messages through their music. I think if they become further mainstream and MTV & the radio stations finish playing out their music to the point it's annoying to hear they will have changed a great deal....most likely in a bad way.
I have to agree with the "HOTTIE" about the mainstream deal Look at Limp Bizkit the were awesome until they got big now they are going downhill, MUSIC wise not popularity by any means, another example, KORN early korn was insane but now they are starting to mainstream too. She has a great point, sad but true.
* Beat dominator - Bomb da bass
* Beat dominator - Ignition
* Beat dominator - Take Controll (one of my favo's)
* Rotterdam Terror Corps - Maniac
* Techno bass - Can you feel the Bass
if you really want to have some fun try the next one :
Woofer Wrecker - Ultimate Subwoofer test.
i suggest you don't start with the volume wide open , cause it will throw an woofer to it's excursion limit.
btw people, there's little to no use to listen to any of these songs at home if you don't have an kick-a$$ home-audio system ,cause cheaper systems will just not produce alot of bass any lower then 50 hz, these songs are mostly between the 36-60hz mark.
this is the range where most good woofers have their max SPL.
Trust me, SOAD is mainstream and have been for about oh a year and a half now... Can't stand a sellout but that's the biz, they're in, if you don't go mainstream, you can't get the cash. When a band say's it's not about the money, why don't they give away cd's then?
The other reason for their seemingly underground appearance is because it's not music everyone can latch onto, but it will be just watch. I know I've never heard of an underground band with 3 videos on MTV. I'm not dogging SOAD I like all their songs, but come on...
I just found another one that pounds pretty good....
WCSR (World Class Sex Rhymes) By Kid Rock feat. Snoop Dog, off his new album ****y. About 2:20 in the beat changes and bumps pretty good.
Listen to music because you like it... not because of not selling out
In reply to this quote: When a band say's it's not about the money, why don't they give away cd's then?
and all the others about selling out..
Bands dont give away free cd's..they need to make money. When they say its not about the money, its cuz they produce the music to make the people happy. These are artists... and like ALL people they want to make a living and need the money to both make the music and survive. More money is always nice because it results in less worries financially.
I guarantee all you guys out there would sell out in a second if you were a musician and was face to face with a 1 Million dollar contract. I mean come on, it just gets old to hear everyone talk about how they hate sell-outs...If you complain that a band should make music for the people and not the money, then you should LIKEWISE B]stop worring about whether they sell-out or not, and Listen to the music . [/B] Everone's been talking about selling out in this thread, i thought i would give my opion
