well, either way, I am done with the restoration step... aside from rust... but I am going to tackle that at the same time as modifications so I don't have to paint over and over again.
Diesel.... well... I am just crazy for diesels.... Doesn't help I was a diesel mechanic for so many years.... I've almost talked myself out of a 4bt or b3.3 though, just because I don't need all that torque... thought about a 4bd1t (isuzu diesel almost identical to a 4bt) just because I can get them wicked cheap.
Honestly though... I will probably end up going with a mercedes om617 because those engines will outlast any vehicle they are put inside of, or a volkswagon 1.9tdi. Either one of them is somewhat under-powered... but I don't tow with this truck... In stock form, they are only short around 20-30 horsepower (which I can get out of them easily) and they are both making torque inline with or better than what the OHV 4.0 make, so, I'm sure they can pull this truck around on the highway. The om617 will probably be what I go with in the end at this point, especially now that I found that it should fit without major modification, which I wasn't expecting.
