Well I got tired of the 4.0 ohv not having any power on the highway climbing the hills on the 62 and having no low end in 4x4 high offroad, especially now that I have a pickup with a 5.7 v8 in it.. I've been lurking for some time since I've been kinda busy with work but, I got my hands on a Turbonetics T3 T4 hybrid so it's project time. It has the .48ar T3 turbine and a f1-57 trim T4 compressor. I expect this thing will spool FAST but I am not making any claims to being too familiar with forced induction..worst case scenario is there's a problem I can get a higher trim turbine. I plan on having it live just behind and to the right of the alternator after doing test fitting. Its snug but should work nice to draw through my snorkel set...
I want a mid-size 4 door SUV to drive when my 2000 Sport is being modified. I was planning to purchase a 2000 4 door Explorer with the SOHC V6 to take advantage of what I've learned, spare parts and my SCT PCM programming software package. However, I realized that at my age my next project vehicle will probably be my last. I've always been partial to DOHC engines since I purchased a 1958 Jaguar XK-150 in 1965. A recent thread: '02 limited 4.0 to 4.6 dohc swap has captured my interest. I didn't know that the Aviator came with a DOHC V8 engine and was based on the 3rd generation Explorer. Since I don't like the looks of the Aviator front or the 500 lb weight disadvantage I've become very interested in swapping an Aviator engine into an...
I'm abandoning my old thread (My new 347), as the motor has been an epic fail for many reasons. Against any sane reason, I'm trying again. Post #1 is a thread with all parts for my own records. I'll keep adding to this as I have the time and know what parts are being used. New (Used) unmolested factory block from Vroomzoomboom. Thanks Tim! I've been helping the mustang crowd come up with a decent set of rods to use in place of the stock forged I-beam rods and I've found a couple different options out there. I want to use this thread for documentation purposes for all the options found and eventually, there will be info about all things needed to build this motor along with the estimated cost. Finally, after the research is done I'm going to put a motor together. The Objective A 4.0 SOHC that will consistently hold 500HP and 600HP at the drag strip. (for a decent cost) - in other words, if this can't be done for a certain price, then a different motor is a better option. I figured I better start a new thread, as my old thread goes on forever detailing my 4.0 ohv M90 install, motor rebuild (Funny thing about that), etc. Here's the original thread that brought me to this point: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=345617 The issue I am currently having with my M90 install is that I am attempting to increase boost, but cant get the intake charge cool enough. I tried water/meth and had limited results. James with Henson performance just cant do anything more with the tuning till iat's come down. So, Ron at RPCaster (Building an intercooler for me), and Tim (Vroomzoomboom) who is going to perform some magic on a hood cowl (It was either that, or a body lift to get the additional...
hello all! well, turdle's mounty has come to maryland. i had been tossing around the idea of a really well built suv that didn't cost a fortune. i have a 97 mounty to tow my racecar and it has been a trusty companion for the last 4 years, but the drivetrain, although very reliable, hasn't been very inspiring. so, i had been looking around for options. i settled on the thought of a 347, but the cost was out of my range...until i read about turdle's mounty up for sale. done deal! now i need to get going on it. work has been crazy for the past month, so i havent been able to get very far and august isn't looking much better, but i am going to try to squeeze in some time. i thought about fixing up the new mounty and just selling mine...
Procharger installed, just need a tune and an intercooled setup to finish Ill start off with saying that I have a 97 Eddie Bauer 5.0 with rear wheel drive. And right now the main thing bugging me is the loss of power at 95mph (final shift point), and the 105 speed limiter. I was wondering if a Shift Kit would fix this... And if not, what will? I was also wondering which performance mods I should do, and in which order (for best money to power results) My first thoughts were: Shift Kit (if it will increase my top speed) Ignition System (MSD or Nology, I dont know which is better) Custom Pully (Possibly NO2) Stroker Kit I'm new to fixing it up performance wise and am totally clueless, I have friends willing to help me...
About a month ago I got Nitrous on my 1994 Explorer and I've been waiting to try it out at the track. Wednesday was the first Test & Tune night at Bandimere Speedway. Currently spraying 50 HP with NGK TR6 spark plugs. After a couple runs the spark plugs looked great. Probably gonna try a 75 shot sometime soon. I gotta thank user jd4242 for his help on getting the kit installed. Up here at 5800 feet above sea level, cars run a lot slower. With only a KKM intake and Dynomax muffer my fastest run ever was 19.30 at 70 mph. Here at the time slips Quite a big drop in ET and good MPH gain. This kit was definatly worth it whether it's racing or just messing around on the streets. Video of me at Bandimere Speedway...

alright guys, here is the deal, my local shop told me that i need a plan of action for my engine build (they are helping me for a grad challenge high school thing)... soo the plan currently is... (2003 ford ranger 4.0 SOHC manual, with JBA shorty heads, K&N CAI, and straight pipe) grab an engine stand of craigslist and a heater for the winter :( scrap a old motor out of the junkyard, have one in mind.. 2003 4.0 SOHC with 83K miles....600$ good for that? im gonna try to shop around, but i really want to see the engine run before i buy it, i guess thats just me though AND WOULD A 4.0 explorer engine bolt right up?? Looking for the 300rwhp range im gonna take it all apart, get someone to hone it, port the heads, get some...
As things are getting closer and closer thought I would update. Started late last year, reading posts and asking questions. I decided to go ahead to drop in a built 347 into my 1996 explorer which has over 300,000km (almost 190,000 miles) on it. The truck still runs great BTW, and has been in the family since new and its been in my hands since last Oct. First impulse was a cheap 1996 complete 1996 5.0L Explorer motor on fleabay. Shipped it to the engine builder to use as a donor. It is a 347 built by Fordstrokers with a custom cam from Camshaft Innovations. - Scat rotating assembly - Mahle pistons -Trick flow fast as cast 190cc heads - comp gold rockers - trick flow Track Heat intake. - Torque Monster Headers built with...
OK, http://kcir.net/~kcir/escal/kcirEscal2007.php September 19th I am going to do my Dammmmdest to get to Kansas City and end this once and for all-- I will have Techieman33 drive the truck down the track-and, if anyone else wants to try, you better show up I may try a run, but since I built it I might baby it. I think Eric has enough Mounty trips down the track to get the job done. So--
New supercharger I am relatively new to the website. I am allways looking for possilbe upgrades to my X, so in digging around I found what may be the golden key. I am only in the investigation stage. I don't have alot of info yet, but it looks like they have developed a stealth supercharger for the 4.0 L Mustang, and are looking at a conversion kit to mount into an Explorer. What makes this supercharger so awsome is that unlike most others, it's boost starts just off idle and has a very linear curve all the way through the rev band. ( So you don't just get a hit at 4000 rpm to redline.) Also, you can adjust the psi boost externally. So if you have it set to 5 psi, ( Approx. 55 hp. gain and 70 ft torque) you don't even need an...
I finally got off of my lazy butt and started tearing KBX down for its phase 2 stage of mods I have planned for it. I took a vid but way too busy/lazy to post it. The whole front end and hood are pretty much torn off and I just dropped the radiator out. I should be pulling the engine tomorrow if my schedule allows. A lot of interesting things going on with this stage of mods. After this stage of mods are completed I should be able to lay down some pretty respectable power finally; along with some good ET's in the 1/4 mile. So far the additional mods that are sitting in my garage are: *VT built 4.6 Billet shortblock *Kenne Bell 8 rib swap kit w/ 2.75" snout pulley *KB 8.5" crank pulley (20psi boost) *New adapted fenderwell...
