01 mountaineer v8. AWD or rwd?

This might seem like a really stupid question, because it probably is, but i read that all 2001 v8 mountaineers were AWD. i didn't believe it, so i looked under mine and i didn't see a transfer case or drive shaft or anything. can somebody please help me out?

They were either AWD or 2WD... They weren't available as a true 4x4.

okay, thanks. its pretty hard to find information on specific models and trim packages.

yeah you were on the right track though cant be awd if theres no shaft to turn those wheels
