2008 Mountaineer since new

I have owned my 2008 Mountaineer since new. I really like it and want to get some info on fixing some current issues. (1) the deploying running boards on do so on the drivers side and I would like to fix the passenger side and not pay $1600 bucks to do so. (2) my rear back-up sensors are not working, the info pops up on the screen but do not sense an object. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
