As my tag says, I have an 04 4.0l 4-wheel drive XLT with dying tranny and diff, it has 108,000 miles on it. I am wanting to know are there any mods for these items? I think the tranny is a 5r55s (but I'm not for sure), I saw on TCIs website that they have a complete upgraded 55s would it work with little to no modifications, do any of the reputable diff manufacters make good limited slips that will work? Also what other items would you replace at this mileage. Any and all suggestions welcome.

The ford tech said so and it whines/drones when your going down the road. Also the drone fluxuates as you get on and off the gas.

Sweet detroit makes something that will work. Awesome I will look into it. What other types of lockers will work with little modification, an electro-locker would be nice.

Which one would i need to get, id go with the stock specs.

You didn't mention what your gear ratio is, but here are some links that should help either way.

Try here for the LS units:

here for the ring and pinion sets:

http://www.ringpinion.com/PartsList...+IRS+SUV&CatID=35&Category=Ring+&+Pinion+Sets

and here for the master rebuild kit:

Give them a call, they should be able to hook you up.

I have TCI Ultimate Master Racing Overhaul Kit #579005 on my 5R55S and it is direct fit

and I have helical LSD all around and they are great especially with AdvancedTrac

but if you don't have AdvancedTrac then e-locker is the perfect choice for you

For front end Eaton E-Locker #19818-010 for 3.73 ratio and numerically higher.
and Eaton E-Locker #19817-010 for 3.54 ratio and numerically lower

and Eaton ELocker #19660-010 for rear end

Mine is select trac with high, low and auto buttons. One thing about the e-locker is the wires which are the last things I want exposed to the elements and snags, so id go with the slippers. I either have a 3.73 or 3.55 but the manual doesnt say anything about the front. What other stuff would you guys look at the torque converter, transfercase or cvs? That tranny is 571100 the TCI website what do you guys think of it? How much HP can the stock gears take, will I just be replacing the gaskets and bands or gears also?
