Fuel Injector seal adapter

In the process of replacing my old fuel injectors with new ones but ran into a problem. Three of the fuel injector seal adapters are cracked and need replacing. Problem is I can't figure out a way to remove them without breaking them into a million pieces and having them get into the engine. Anyone else face this problem, and if so, how did you remove them.

How did you end up tackling the problem of the adapters crumbling into lots of small pieces? I'm getting ready to work on my injectors, so your experience would be appreciated. Thanks.

vacuum and a pick
Or put vaseline on a Qtip, stick it down in the injector hole slightly, then remove the adapter or whats left of it, then pull up the Q tip.

Got out the shop vac and just vacuumed the old adapters out. For the ones that didn't crumble into pieces, I just took two picks and started prying up on them working my way around the bottom of the adapters.
