2000 XLT 4.0 SOHV Having occasional missing problems at idle. Missing real bad during hard acceleration at about 40mph. Changed plugs, wires & cleaned iac. Still same.... Thinking maybe a EGR? no check engine light.

Clean MAF sensor

The EGR valve should be closed during hard acceleration and idle. If it is stuck open then the PCM should detect that via the DPFE sensor. I assume that you have no diagnostic trouble codes.

I suggest that you clean the MAF sensor with MAF sensor cleaner.

You may also want to check the crankshaft position sensor connector to make sure the contacts are clean.

Thanks - cleaned MAF this morning and seems to be running fine.
