I was up working from 145 till 345 working on my front brake calipers... once i got a hang of how to do it with the first one, the second was a breeze... i did royal blue calipers (to match the ford badge on the rim) and did the outer part that holds in the caliper silver... will post pics tomorrow when i do the rears

How did you paint them? What paint?

I did mine with Dupli Color Brake Caliper Paint. Take a look at http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=140016&highlight=painted+calipers

i used duplicolor high heat (1200 degree) engine coat primer, with royal blue high heat engine coating (since u cant get a royal blue in the regular caliper paint), and i used silver regular duplicolor caliper paint (500 degree)... first i sanded it with a wirebrush on a dremel (took a while haha i suggest using a grinder with a wire brush on it to cover more ground)... then i sprayed it with brake cleaner... i wiped the excess off with paper towels and covered up the exposed parts not wanting to paint with trash bags and sprayed away... heres the result

From what we can see they look great. Job well done.

Do you have any pics of them with the wheel off?

The paint job is nice, would it look any better powder coated?

There's a guy on ebay that sells high temp caliper stickers, maybe he can do explorers?

I painted mine too, but with the deer hoof style wheels, you can't see it unless the sun and wheel position is just perfect. I hope to get new wheels eventually, and then everybody will see what I have done!

They look good by the way, I like the blue idea.

idk if it would appear smoother or not but maybe... i think a ford sticker or explorer one mite look nice

and yea the blue and silver i thought it would match the rim and the ford logo... figured i would give it a shot

awesome...they look great.

I painted mine with just regular spray paint, but the brake dust gets on them and make them look like crap after awile:rolleyes:

FWIW, here is my post on a recent caliper paint job on the "unmodified" forum: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=192128

pretty interesting to see that bright red-orange paint under the rim... looks pretty good man... kudos to ur work... if i had a diff color car that gold i would have gone with red or yellow... blue and silver were pretty neutral just like my gold truck... figured i would keep it neutral

I went with the ORANGE because its my school's color. The fact that I have a pearl color X means I could have picked pretty much any color. I figured if I was painting them then the purpose was so they would be noticed. Believe me, the orange gets noticed. I get a lot of compliment off the street. Black or silver would have just blended into the background and there would not have been a point to painting them. I think the key with painted calipers is having an open face rim like I have to really show them otherwise you really don't see much with the factory rims like I had before.

thats pretty true... the only time i can see mine like blatently is when i see my reflection on a car on the interstate... i notice it pretty easily but i think its cause i own it haha... people have said things but its def not as noticable as urs
