you have tho get the No-Slip version of the Powertrax, I don't think they make the lock right one for the 7/8" 31 spline L/S. Mine was about $430 bucks:(

also look into a aussie locker

once you get one, let me know I can help you put it in;)

The Aussies website just says they have a 31 spline ford 8.8 is that the 7/8" shaft or is that something i need to specify to them?

Those are pretty cheap, has anyone had these and had good experiences with them?

Thanks a lot Steve, once i do get it, look for a pm, I'm about ten minutes down the 210 from you..

no that is the correct one for Explorer 8.8 but the Aussie only works if you have the Open Carrier in the rear axle. if you have the Limited Slip Diff then you will need the PowerTrax unit since it is the only one that works with the Limited Slip Diff.

and if you don't know which you have then you can get the info from the door tag there will a spot on the tag that say "axle" with a 2 digit code underneath it

and you can decode it here: http://www.explorerforum.com/ntrprize/Axle.htm

so in you case i think you have the 3.73's so it should be a either code 46 or D4.

Yeah i have the D4 code, im gonna try to find an open carrier so i can go with the aussie, unless its cheaper to do the powertrax no slip version

If you do the no slip, we can open her up pull the c-clip throw it in and close her back up. Should not take more then a few hours...and we can do a LIVE web cast:D

If you go with a open carrier...I can't help you. You'll have to take it to a shop because we'll have to remove the ring gear.

No-Slip is say $430
Aussie or lock right $200 (or more)+ carrier $100 + Install $150.

It all about the same. Only with no Slip you drive it home that day, the other way you may not have your truck for a few days:rolleyes:

Good poiinttt, i think i will go with the no slip if thats the case, or i found a guy selling factory 410 gears for 200 soo that may be another option, i know its not a big jump but for 200 bucks it would be worth it

The no slip from summit for the 8.8 7/8 shaft is 489 plus tax, im not sure if they get cheaper through other vendors...

Having to change the carrier is not that big of a deal. The shims are on the outside of bearings so it means you do not need setup bearings. The open carrier is a bit stronger then the L/S one. With all that said I would still say get one that fits the carrier that you have. Unless you get new gears then get what ever locker you want.

Check out some of the pirate4x4 vendors;)

I will be getting a locker before that definately, would a powertrax lock-right be a good one, i know its the least expensive one but its a locker..
My No-Slip lasted exactly 3/4 of the Rubicon Trail before it went out. It was easy to install, but we had to cut the carrier in half to get it out. Get a Detroit and forget about it.

"ditto"

And.....since a Detroit should be less than $600.00, its worth the extra for something that is going to last a lifetime of wheelin'

hmmm. maybe if i get a job soon i can go. :)

Alright lets dig this thread up....lets talk about some dates in May... Who's in? We havn't been here in 5 years!
