My daughter was driving my '99 Explorer to work when she called, broke down on the side of the road.
The fuel filter had suddenly come loose from the fuel line to the tank.
I drove up to check it out and found that the clip had let go of the fuel filter.
Unfortunately I just had shoulder surgery and couldn't fix it on the side of the road with one hand. :(
Had to call a tow truck. Dealer was 2 miles away.
Figured they could put in a new clip and we'd be on our way shortly.
NOPE! Needed to drop the tank and put in a new $295 fuel line.
Add to that $100 for 4 hours labor and there you go.
$695 for $2 worth of parts.
I got the old fuel line back and removed the parts from the other "good" end.
Apparently you cannot buy these parts separately.

That's rough man, sorry to hear it.

Glad you were able to help your daughter when she was stranded though.

I had to cut my fuel line on both ends to get my fuel filter out from under my 98. I put these quick release clips in both ends with this new kind of fuel line that will heat shrink around the quick release ends. I maybe spent $25 for a filter and the new ends.

You can get those retainer clips for a couple bucks at any Napa, sorry to hear about the rip off report.

NAPA showed no retainer clip like mine in their catalogue.
The ones they did have were too big.
I could have figured out a repair had I not been temporarily handicapped.
My dealer screwed me, totally.

one of my exes had a fuel pump line damaged, I snipped it and attached a rubber fuel hose with some clamps and bits and drove it like that for many years. it was a $5 fix
