Looks like they did a good job to me.

Although I agree, my kid had that setup on his and for me it was a bit to loud.

But then we could compare it to mine without mufflers at all one day---

( man I sill love hearing that video)

i went with keeping all the cats and running a flowmaster40 2in 2out, with 2 1/2 all the way threw and i couldnt be happier.

Picture please of tube going to the driver side of spare tire. Please show clearance at tightest spot.

i run 31's and dont carry a spare.

Yep. Dual exhaust+spare =no worky

Which is why a dual exhaust can not be recommended for a daily driver hauling kids around.

That exhaust work does look well done as shown. The muffler and tail pipe tip are the main reason for the sound levels. Pick a bigger muffler(or two) and run the tail pipe to the bumper(extended at least to the bumper), for lower sound levels.

Psst Jon, I carry a tire repair kit, and repair flats faster than you can change a tire.:p: I've had to change to a spare one time because the rock in the tire made a large hole I couldn't plug.

Shoot me, I'll eventually do my exhaust(and the 347), and make a left tail pipe fit. The muffler shops cannot do it though.

That actually helps quite an exhaust, having differing pipe sizes or lengths.

FYI, the Mark VII LSC which comes with the same 302 HO as a Mustang, it has different tail pipe sizes. The front cat pipes and headers are the identical parts, but the tail pipes are 2" and 1 7/8" in size. Different is good.

i may try a different muffler, i like where it exits it looks factory. just replaced my outside drivers door handle it broke this morning. there is a great repair thread on here for that from a1 auto i believe. made my install a breeze took less than 30 min. anyway thanks for all the help guys learned alot on here today. now for the big question. what would be the best daily driver combo for me opinion wise. my job is 20 miles from the house and i will use this on some trips. will the step up in power later fix my torque issue or do you think some of the new fms 3.90 rear gear sets since its in between 3.73 and 4.10. this explorer has a 3.73 seems to little, and i had a94 lightning with the 351 and4.10s and it was horrible on gas....BUT FUN TO DRIVE. I WANT AN EXPERIENCE EVERYTIME I GET IN MY VEHICLES ....NOT A BAD ONE THOUGH. how do you like your stroker turdle is the 347 good or do you wish you would have went with a 331

could you just put a 3" reducer to 2.5" and then back to 3" just behind the muffler to bring the back pressure up to where it should be?

it won't cut down on the noise but it should give you power back.

it has started rainig as soon as it stops i will get you that pic of the tightest spot on spare i can tell you now though it is a litte more than an inch. i cant get two fingers side by side in between tube and tire

i want mine to stand out and go hard.my wife said no more mustangs for a while so i looked at a lot of the newer explorers with the 4.6 and i started thinking about how hard it was for me to get my gt to react to performance mods and how expensive those mods were, ihad almost 8 grand ties up in engine and it still wouldnt do what some of my fox cars would do for a quarter of that. so i found this 2000 explorer limited its 2wd v8 and i felt i could use my mustang knowledge to make this 4100 lb beast do something. i was wrong. but i wont lose faith i like it. just need some nice wheels at moment and i will be content till i can figure out how to make it run

It's a 4500 lbs SUV, keep that in mind. Jon did the ideal straight forward thing, raised the compression and added 45 CI.

The PCM tune is crucial, you have not lost power, the problem is the air/fuel ratio is leaned out compared to the small exhaust. The exhaust flow is terrible with the stock exhaust, any real improvement in airflow will result in a leaner mixture. The answer is not to add any restrictions back, the answer is to add more fuel. The computer controls that, it cannot perfectly correct for major airflow changes. The programming has to be corrected to fix the air/fuel ratio. That will improve the power over stock, where you feel it down now, and the economy will go back up too.

Decide on your airflow changes first, do those and then reprogram the PCM.

sounds like the right way to go, i will try to find the gentleman from heuytown on here that does that stuff and get ahold of him to see what he can do.

That is pretty much EXACTLY what i want to do... Is that a kit or something you had made.

If you dropped the rear converters what did you do with the rear 02 sensors? Did it throw a code?

Nice looking Explorer!
Thanks,

:thumbdwn:went yesterday to have exhaust put on at my local guy. he asked me what do you want and i said the same thing you put on my 98 gt. he ****ed his head and said cant do the same" BUT I WILL GET YOU CLOSE"........WRONG ! going to tell you what he did and the end result so you guys DONT do it. he says do you want converters and after reading the forums here i said keep the front ditch the back.says ok takes rear two converters, muffler, and small oval resonator off. starts bending and putting 2 2 1/2 inch tubes from y pipe back to a double 2 1/2 inch in magnaflow that comes out 3 inch and proceeds to run 3 inch from out muffler to rear of explorer. well it sounded great idleing and when you revved it sounded great, the problem was when i left. interior was so loud from gears 1,2,3, and initial 4 that i couldnt think, and the tourqe that was there is now GONE. but at highway speeds 65 and higher its docile and pulls like a champ. ive lost fuel mileage already. needless to say im not happy. any suggestions on a fix barring a complete redo? oh shift points are different as well. :thumbdwn:

The secondary cats have no sensors after them. The sensors are between the primary and secondary cats.
