has anyone ever swapped one in a 1st or 2nd gen explorer?

I know every one does the bw4406, which i perfer not to due to the slip yoke, but i was wondering about the bw4407?

i have a 97 5.0 with a bad t-case(in 2wd now, using it for my Daily)
and a 94 that is getting a 96 expo 5.0 drive-train soon

i have a bw1356 which i know i can make fit(fixed yoke), but i wonder how the bw4407 was?

thankyou.

I'm not aware of anyone who has done that swap. Bumping this thread back up for you in case someone else may be able to help.

I doubt it’d fit without pretty substantial modifications. The 4406 is mighty tight. Couldn’t you have the driveshaft modified to use a fixed yoke?

4407 is tooooooooo big and heavy for our trucks
Whats wrong with the slip yoke?
You can do a 1356 or a Ford NP205, or Atlas :) those will all bolt up to the 4r70w and fit between the frame rails
the 4406 BARELY fits and that is with clearancing to the stock gas tank hanger bracket and shaving off some aluminum tabs on the 4406 body......

thank-you for the replies, and its personal preference, i have busted a rear driveshaft before, removed the bolts out on the trails and drove 80 miles home in Front wheel drive, the slip yoke will drop the fluid out making that impossible if the rear shaft breaks. so for my short term goals in the 97, the bw4406 will work, but in my long term not so much, (unless i carry a spare shaft and ATF)

and i would love a Atlas, but those are way over budget, and as said i have a 1356 already, just was curious if anyone used the bw4407, it looked alot more beefy

only pic i could find online

Get a heavy duty custom driveshaft.
