Sport Trac Jr. engine,body bush,Manual Tran.....quest...

Here is Demos, just before he passed @ 14. Active to the end. That dog knew what I was thinking, and did anything he was told. Thanks for allowing me to share

@sport trac jr. You can install the totally manual tensioner that has a lock nut as a preventative measure. Here is a link to one on Ebay. Click there> manual tensioner. I have one installed in the left front cylinder head of my white "97 SOHC powered explorer. This discussion reminds me that I need to do the right side this week!

I have the 2001 ST 4.0, .... where you have to take off on the front air flow etc. to install .... saw the
15 16 Polaris RZR 900 on ebay......that one is compatible with the 4.0 SOHC ...

thanks allmyX's

Post #150 of my thread shows a picture of it installed in the left cylinder head. Several parts have to be out of the way to do this on a '97. I assume that you would have to remove a few things on yours. IIRC I adjusted it until it quieted down and then a hair more or less. I can't remember exactly but you can feel it through your hand and tools. Possibly 410Fortune might have the Polaris application instruction that would give you something to go on. The one I included the link on Ebay is the one that will work on the 4.0 SOHC and the price is definitely right!

There is always the automatic tensioner option Automatic Tensioner which is about $100- more. I have never had one or seen one apart so I don't know any thing about them.

GOOD DOGGIES!!!

We have voles here, little rodents that burrow in the grass.....keeps our mutts busy and me filling holes with dirt. Every once in a while a dead vole "chew toy" shows up in the garage so I know they get them sometimes

automatic tensioner is just a spring loaded providing the pressure with a ratchet to keep it from backing out.
Stick with the manual style, adjust it once and be done. If it ever slacks up tighten it a bit (never happens)

To install is to easy, basically install the tensioner in the intake, twist the inner rod with your fingers until it makes contact with the timing guide, twist until finger tight. Back off just a hair, smash down the jamb nut. Done

97-03 SOHCS will require removal of the upper plenum and thermo housing to get at the drivers tensioner
04+ you can get straight at it

Small engines from Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Polaris all use MANUAL or RATCHETING style chain tensioners since the 1970's as far as I can tell (I rebuild off road and snow machines), from 50cc two strokes to 999cc v twins with dohc....all use simple chain tensioners until mid 2000's when they decided to go hydraulic??? and then when Polaris goes hydraulic they use the same part that gave Ford engines fits??? I wish I was there at Polaris in 2014 in that meeting....... I actually was invited by Polaris to be on a panel of owners who want to provide feedback, but because my stepson worked for a Polaris dealer they uninvited me :) They don't want to hear about my "owner experience" I am sure..... over $60K worth of Polaris machines outside, I think I am qualified!

Voles. Who would have thought... We have moles and my dog will lay on the ground with her ear downward then get up and start digging until she finds them. Our yard is well aerated.
I looked this up on Google and they are two different creatures HOW TO TELL THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MOLES & VOLES

yup, I have voles. Big ol orange teeth but otherwise just like a big field mouse
Now I know for sure they are "voles"
They make these big mounds of soft grey dirt, the mower hits them and it like WHOOSH big cloud of dust. I have a very powerful mower :)

Is your mower a V8 conversion as well?

Well here we go engine tap...the oil guy...real? Of course this would apply to the ST....

I did not watch the video but I am skeptical of any liquid "engine fixes"

The Seafoam doesn't "fix" the problem, it does make it better though by cleaning out some of the sludge and letting the oil get to where it needs.
Beware of running anything other than motor oil and certainly not anytime the engine is working hard or is experiencing heat.
The only way to fix the problem in the video would be @ the very least pull the head, rebuild it and replace the lifters, then run a high detergent oil, and change it out more often.

Seafoam does indeed break up carbon deposits
I have used it a time or two in the crankcase and fuel injection

Diesel oil, atf and Mobil one full synthetic will also break down carbon, maybe not as quickly, but they will do the same job.

the problem with that 2.9 was carbon, the sea foam and treatments for sure help.... I agree it works
Smokes like heck when added to crankcase or intake.... Hope you have good relations with your neighbors :)

Carbon is the enemy
Change your oil often!
Sea foam will break up carbon so it can be flushed out for sure!! I have seen the inside of enough cologne v6 and SBF 5.0 engines to know that carbon is the enemy........oil starvation issues are always carbon buildup issues inside the engines as the oil pumps are just about bomb proof. We have had engines with 0 oil pressure come back to life after just a few treatments of diesel oil and then a regiment/lifetime of mobil one........
So Skeptical yes, no liquid will fix leaky valve seals or worn valvetrains/ crank/cam bearings BUT it sure can remove carbon!!!!!!!!!!
