New here. Didn't see a discussion about my question. We would like to black out out grill and wheels. Does anyone know where we can buy a kit or option to black out such. Thank you

Others have used Plasti-dip. It's a spray on application. Many YouTube videos on how to do it. Or spend some big bucks and get new wheels and buy a grille from Ford. Also, there are a few wheel dealers who will sell you powder coated OEM wheels. I got some from a supplier to swap out my ST-Line 20" wheels for the ones in the picture. Let me know if you want info.

Thank you. I like to know what the spray on Plasti-dip results is like. Sounds better option and less money. :)

I've never seen it myself but from the videos I've watched of the actual application, it looks good. The basic finish is a satin but you can get a glossifier to make it shiny. The cool thing is that it can be removed if you don't like it. And if you want to try it, a can is about $8 at Walmart. YouTube is really a good source to see what others have done.

You can check out the website dipyourcar.com for info on Plasti Dip. I haven't used it on anything large, but it is a good product. However, I would think that to do a grill, you would have to remove the grill from the vehicle, which is a significant process. You would also have to worry about messing up the vent louvers, sensors, etc. It seems that if you go though the work to do this, how much more work / money is it to just put replace the grill with the ST version?

I have an 08 Taurus that I bought from my parents for the kids and the clear coat on the wheels was in really bad shape. It was discolored and flaking off and I thought hey - it can't look any worse. So I pulled them and knocked off the flakes and smoothed down the lines and plasti-dipped them. That was about 2 years ago. Some observations:
  • Use the glossifier - I didn't and they are hard to keep clean.
  • I don't usually use wheel cleaner but with the consistency of the plasti-dip you pretty much have to. It will make them look splotchy but I've found that Meguire's car wax shines them right back up and evens out the color.
  • It's the easiest 'painting' I've ever done. It leaves a slightly rough texture but it's really easy to lay down and build up.
  • I haven't tried to peel it off yet - haven't needed to - time will tell.
  • I don't regret doing it for a minute - but they weren't pristine rims to begin with.
