My Black 2000 Explorer Sport

Yesterday before working on the Explorer, I took its picture at a local park. It was nice to see the ships being unloaded/loaded again since the strike was postponed until January. I hope they don't have to go on strike at all.

Oh wow she’s sharp!!! Any rust? How are the door hinge pins?

Do tell the specs!
She looks showroom condition!!
This vehicle does have rusted rocker panels; I would like to learn to replace them, so I bought this vehicle with that in mind.
The door hinges seem to work fine and the doors do not drop when opened if that makes sense.
It has approximately 127,000 miles on it, the transmission is an automatic, and the engine is the 4.0 SOHC. 4.10 gears, NOT limited slip, yet.

I almost forgot, I had a muffler and tailpipe installed. It is much quieter now.

So when you open the door grab the very end of it and lift up, this is how we test the door hinge pins for looseness. The sport doors are like 6”
Longer then other ranger based trucks so they have the biggest issue with getting loose. What gears are in it? May sports are 4.10

Nice update!
I do the same thing with the drivers lock cyl however you can remove it from the door and soak it overnite… then work it back and forth 10000000 times and do a Final clean and lube. Works like new!

one other thing i found with sports is if the door pins are worn out and left like that, over time it will ruin the door latches as well.

I finally got all 6 lift supports installed. The set only cost 37.25

The center console lid looked like most do, I found an inexpensive replacement on Ebay.

Replaced the rear taillights.

Replaced the headlights.

Replaced the cruise control switches.

Installed a battery hold down. Of course I had to drill out two broken bolts.

IMG_0551.jpg

Had a new belt on it but it was the wrong size. This used one was off my old blue 98 four door that I junked at 315,000 miles due to rust and timing chain failure.

I had to replace one rear wheel stud, and a couple of lug nuts.

There is still plenty of work to do, more to come later.

This clamp was missing on this Explorer. I had a couple laying around from previous projects, so I grabbed one and installed it.
No more air leaks after the MAF sensor now!

I only got one key and remote. I had a new unused remote and bought a key off Ebay. I had the key cut at the local hardware store for 2.07. I programmed the key to the vehicle using the IDS with version 74 software that doesn't need a 1,000 a year license. The key and remote both work now.

The hood did not line up very well when I bought this Explorer. The hood stops were broken.
