purpose built fishing camping truck

first up the simple steel bracket we made for tucking the radiator. The core support was cut between the frame rails
A u shaped piece of steel was added to then drop down and pickup the lower pegs of the 4.0 radiator. This was re enforced with a plate steel support with dimple dyes for strength and airflow

@410Fortune Memories. I like how the radiator drop bracket worked out, not to mention, all of the other stuff.
In post #64, what is the oil pan issue going on?

I used a ball pine hammer to clearance my oil pan to fit around my James duff suspension brackets
I also am running a mustang dual sump oil pan which is required for a 302
Oil Pan to fit a ttb truck engine cradle

That red thing does not look like the correct pan

This write-up is incredibly helpful I keep referencing it for my plan. If you live in MI I'll buy you a beer.

When you're right. You're right. You all tried to tell me. We pulled the motor today and did the front dress. I have plenty of accessories in the mail. We are back to square two but I think once we are in a good place it will start snow balling. Thank you all for the knowledge. Next week is notching the AC box and slapping in motor and trans. More pics to cum.

Patron Anejo is my drink of choice these days lol or some crown and coke

So glad you have the knowledge you need! Get that sucker in there
Don’t forget the dual sump oil pan and pickup tube

I have started a 94 302 project myself now… details to follow
So I’m glad this is all fresh in our heads because I am doing the same thing right now

I'm a little confused. My pan is a dual sump. Does that mean I should just hammer the sides to clear the cradle? Lmk where to send the bottle 🤣

The old mustang dual sump pan clears the cradle.. at least it should

Sometimes it doesn’t clear the drop bracket for the passenger side beam and that’s where the hammer comes in.

As @allmyEXes pointed out, I didn’t see a front drain plug in your pic and it looked like the pan was resting on the cradle
But these are just pics on the internet I’m not standing there with you

You a hammer can be used to clearance the pan just be weary of the pickup location and how much hammering is needed

Can lift the engine slightly if needed to make things clear 100% you should have about 1/4”’clearance everywhere minimum as you are using rubber engine mounts and that sucker will move around quite a bit in there

A remote filter adapter kit may have already been discussed however you will at the least need one of these 2 types of ex/mm 5.0 filter adapters for your oil filter to clear the tight frame rail/s. This is instead of a remote filter kit.
I don't have a 4.0 SOHC adapter to confirm if it will screw into the 5.0 block or not. @410Fortune Jamie may have used parts on hand to confirm if a 4.0 SOHC piece will work too. Early 1970's Ford heavy truck FL-299 screwed onto modified old heat exchanger type that came off of my 1997 (1996.5) Merc Mountaineer. It may have been used in 1998 too however I can't confirm this.

A fender washer or two under the motor mounts sometimes is needed for clearance.

@410Fortune I may be wrong about the Gen 2 5.0 oil filter adapters. They may not work on the Gen 1 1991-1994 Explorers with the
old style steering boxes. Jamie would know.

Those appear bigger than some of the older adapters.

Does this pic help you see? I guess I should use those fender washers and raise the motor a bit on the passenger side?

Not the cleanest work. I tried to do this in the engine bay and it was a disaster. Disassembled half the box. Tried an aluminum sheet to make the shape I needed. Failed there. Ended up using some wood and put some aluminum foil on top. Formed it from there. I'll put another layer on it tomorrow. Maybe one more after. Should be good to for reassembly and motor and trans installation Saturday. Thanks boys
