My New, New 347
I finally had some great success with a tool after all else failed. With the lack of clearance, and the dual valve springs I really thought I was going to be pulling the motor. Passenger side is done, the drivers side is proving to be painful. I think it's got a lot to do with the fact that my...- Dono

And...I like the hex head. Maybe not as pretty, but for practical reasons its sure nice. Doesn't fill with crud, no real issues of stripping the head, etc. In my opinion, the phillips head looks the nicest, since its the flattest. edit: I missed the last couple of posts....Busy working while...- Dono

My New, New 347
Yea, this is all best guess. The oil is going somewhere. I don't think a seal is torn, I just don't think they are sealing. I have to start somewhere, and if this doesn't stop the oil usage, I'm going to have to try something else.- Dono

My New, New 347
I stuck a little ebay bore-scope down the lower intake ports to see if I could see signs of oil. I was pulling the bore-scope out and the line was all oily on a few ports. If you look at the picture, you can see what looks like oil on the valve. It kinda looks like oil droplets on the valve...- Dono

Oil consumption is a bit over a quart every 200 miles. Lots of blue smoke at times. Yea, Iv'e never pulled a spring with compressed air holding up the valves. Using the leak down tester to keep pressure in the cylinder is supposed to work. I'm going to find out. The builder is more than...- Dono

I have an unhappy motor... Is anyone really, truly surprised? Some things just are not meant to be. Iv'e been pre-fogging the neighborhoods in anticipation of mosquitoes. Blue exhaust. So, the trouble shooting started. #4 plug looks very oil fouled. Compression looks good. Leak...- Dono

2000 limited cruise control switches
I replaced mine, and did not bother pulling the steering wheel. The switches pop right out. Was less than a 5 minute job for me. If you do decide to pull the steering wheel , no pulley required. Loosen the center bolt (not all the way off) and pull/wiggle the steering wheel. It will come loose.- Dono

98 Explorer 5.0 in 00 Ranger / Vacuum Questions
There should be one to the pcv valve, and if memory is correct, another vac line went to the vapour management for the fuel tank. In the explorer, this was to the drivers side front of the vehicle. I thought the line at the oil fill tube didnt go to vacuum, but went to the air intake pipe...- Dono

Tuning my 347 with rear mount turbo
I still managed to end up with a bog/rpm limiter, or whatever is happening on the way home last night. Its kinda funny how people get all riled up and want to get in front of you when you do a quick wot pull. lol I'll have to try to remember/find what happens when the rev limiter is hit. I'm... -

Tuning my 347 with rear mount turbo
good question...I was busy hanging on to my shorts. I'm sure It did, but I'll have to do another pull to see. The weather is not great, so its been difficult to do a good pull. I really need an evening that I can find a stretch of highway that isn't very busy (and dry roads). -
Tuning my 347 with rear mount turbo
The zip ties did help. WOT throttle is now at 760. Although, I did end up with some binding somewhere (Even though the throttle cable was still loose) and had a high idle. I removed one of the zip ties, and all is well. I just need to remember that wot is a throttle position of 760 when... -
Removing radiator from condensor on a 5.0?
Why Ford did this on the 5.0 motor, I have no idea. Whats even weirder is that the 4.0 2nd gen's have a different system that is easy and works perfectly. Why this diabolical system on only the 5.0? I had my rad out (A blood letting experience, every time), and a friend showed up with the...- Dono

Tuning my 347 with rear mount turbo
I know it was the w/m as I moved the adjustment so it wouldn't start spraying till 8psi+ and the hesitation was gone. I did have a closer look at my wot log, and my shifts were at about 5100rpm, and shift point was set to 5800. The relative throttle position to closed was only just over 700 at... -
Tuning my 347 with rear mount turbo
No re-testing yet. Probably Monday. Wot logged rich with no meth spraying, then I 'misplaced' my dongle between work and home.:censored: My plan is to set wot a/f at 12:1, then add the water/meth. At least if something happens to the spray, I'll still be in a safe range. -
Tuning my 347 with rear mount turbo
Your right Tim, there's always some stress tapping a hole you just made. I'm no pro at this stuff. The thread pitch is 1/8-27 which is the same as pipe thread, so as long as I threaded the hole ok, I can easily plug it if I need to. I know that since I used a 1/8 pipe plug to seal the hole in... -
Tuning my 347 with rear mount turbo
I'm still stuck on the fact that I only have 2.5" piping from the back of the truck. I just don't think there would be a gain in going bigger on that elbow. The good news is that this motor is behaving better timing wise. It's not detonating as soon as it's breathed on. This is awesome for... -
Tuning my 347 with rear mount turbo
Meth nozzle moved, I just need to wire in solenoid power to the pump power, and ground. I hid the solenoid behind the cruise control on the fender. Fit pretty good there. -
Tuning my 347 with rear mount turbo
The maf actually reads pretty good. It's just placement of the water/Meth nozzle that was creating an issue for me. I currently have the nozzle in the elbow (Right by the pressure sensor), and the maf is not happy with it at all. I need to move the nozzle. -
Tuning my 347 with rear mount turbo
I had it under the truck. It was a super straight shot for the air flow, other than the sensitive sensor being under there, I thought it was an awesome spot. It was actually really well protected. Don Lasota didn't like the distance and asked me to move it, so I did. I can't move the maf... -
Tuning my 347 with rear mount turbo
ok, so....Where do I stick the water/meth injector? I need to get it after the maf. Currently its in the elbow before the maf and the motor bogs as soon as the meth starts injecting. I can see in the logs the maf is not happy about meth spraying where it is at all (I see the maf counts jump to... -

I can see in the logs the weirdness that happens with the maf counts. I think I'm best to just move where I spray and be done with it. Far easier than fighting with moving the iat sensor, etc.- Dono

My maf and iat sensors are the same unit. I wanted the iat sensor to 'see' the cooler air, but this is going to be a problem. A few years ago I tried adding a separate iat sensor in the lower intake, but the truck saw super high temps at idle and started upping the idle, adding fuel, and...- Dono

My New, New 347
Don, its back to more complexity. I'm not building a track vehicle, so a crank case evac pump isn't necessary. I have my pcv system working so the oil stays cleaner, and thats the main thing. Even if cost, and complexity were not an issue, I'd loose the pcv system, and I don't want to loose it...- Dono

My New, New 347
Ideal would be 18. I do get this when decelerating. Yes, 10 is not great, but 4 was terrible. Blow off is a pressure differential. So, when the throttle plate closes quickly, there's high pressure in the piping leading to the throttle plate, and low pressure in the intake manifold. The...- Dono
