mono leaf springs are the dark side of the force

Put a vise grip on the round end, and remove the nut.

    2wd trans, 4wd output shaft

So i know the output shaft is the last thing to leave the trans. But if I were getting it rebuilt anyways, could I just throw in the 4x output shaft? Is just the splined end bigger, or is it the whole shaft? I figure its just as easy to pay a transmission guru to swap shafts on a trans that I...

SAS with a twist, walk me through this.

As in put a completely different case in there? Can you convert the stock unit to manual shift? And no, I'm not gonna rebuild the tranny myself. I'm confident in my mechanic skill, but not that confident.

SAS with a twist, walk me through this.

Exactly my thinking, I don't want to spend all that money on the IFS stuff just to rip it out later. It would probly be just as much money to go ahead and put the axle in there. Custom fabbing on the front end is the least of my worries, its getting the power to the axle after I put it in...

SAS with a twist, walk me through this.

Ive got a 98' sport 2wd. Say I wanted to convert her to 4wd. I think it would be easier (or just as difficult, certainly not any more difficult) to go ahead and swap a axle in there right away. My main concern is in the area of the transmission. I'm guessing its not as easy as just swapping...

    Couple torsion bar questions.

    1. No worries taking them all the way out. 2. Run a search for tortion flip, theres pictures and everything. 3. Go get it aligned, do it after your done messing with the flip, or the bolts though. Dont get it aligned and then lower it more, thats pointless. (btw, take the bumpstops out...

    hoping to find a cure

The only way you could get tortion bars on a 2wd Ranger would be to get the EDGE. Which wasnt available in 98'. Either you had 4x4 or you didnt have tortion bars man. Hell, you can go buy a 2006 ranger 2wd without the edge package and get coils still. btw, theres no such thing as a Ranger...

    Explorers/SportTracs = Exact same suspension?

I'd be using 20's if I were to do this. The main thing I'm worried about is what if these companies just assume that the explorer arms are the same as the ranger arms? I don't want to go through the same hassle that you did James. I guess the thing to ask now would be has anyone actually seen...

    Explorers/SportTracs = Exact same suspension?

Been noticing ads for control arms for lowering sport tracs floating around lately. Just wondering if anyone would know if the ST uses the exact same front suspension as the Explorer? To be honest I'm looking for people who have access to part #'s and such so I can be axactly sure here. If...

    410Fortune - 96 5.0L XLT refurbish (making 1 great Ex from 2)

Did you ever contact Perry's? I'm interested in this kit as well, but its not on their site. I'd e-mail them myself, but I figure why if you already have.

A couple quick balljoint/control arm questions

Well that took a load off my mind. :D As far as the lowers go, I know the joints have nothing to do with the load on the spring. I just wasnt sure if you could press out the old one, and press in the new one while leaving it on the truck. Thanks alot for the quick reply man.

A couple quick balljoint/control arm questions

So both my lower and upper balljoints on both sides went bad recently. Got the parts from the local dealership (father works there, get quite a discount). I started opening boxes and realized that both of the upper control arms were one piece (unlike the stock passenger side which is that two...

Photos show off your LOWERED truck

Hows the ride with the drop that far? I've been thinkin about pickin up a 1st gen myself.

1st gen with 2nd gen front end

oh wow, I always knew he had the front end, but not metal fenders. I'll have to check it out.

1st gen with 2nd gen front end

Been there, done that, lifted it back up. lol. :D Theres absolutely no way to lower these suspensions more than a couple of inches and still have a tolerable ride. Not only that, but allignment is impossible after like 2.5" anyways.

1st gen with 2nd gen front end

So basically what you are saying is that a 1st gen radiator mounts in such a way that it will not go into a 2nd gen header panel? 1st Gens dont even have a header panel so to speak? Just a surround that the headlight buckets bolt to? You can email me at my address below, and I can even host...

1st gen with 2nd gen front end

I still dont see why you have to cut the gen1 header panel just below the headlights. Whats the reasoning behind not being able to just use a whole 2nd gen header panel? I'm not expecting it to bolt up or anything, I have the tools necessary to make my own bracketry and such. Your...

1st gen with 2nd gen front end

Thanks for the reply man. The main reason I'm interested in this is the lack of suspension options for gen2's. The absolute lowest you can drop them is 2-2.5". If I had beams I could go 5+". Do you see a reason why I could just completely take the gen 1 front end off, and slap on a gen 2...

1st gen with 2nd gen front end

I've seen a few 1st gens around that have 2nd gen front ends on them. They were all trail rigs though, and I'm thinking about it for a street application (no glass fenders or anything like that). Is it a pretty straight forward thing to do? I have skills with a welder and other tools to do...

    Anyone In Florida Do Airbags?

Well dont send him to Speed and Truck unless he's rich and doesnt mind paying way more than most other shops. I've never really researched shops around here so I'm not much help, but I do know Speed and Truck charges a pretty penny.

Anyone in central FL with a lowered X?

wasn't me either. I say we all meet up at towers one night. I'll most likely be there Friday the 16th if anyone else is up for it.

    ROLL PAN 91-97

Hey man, im just looking at your web page. Were those 20" Cobras or 18's? They look like 20's, but iver never seen 20's that were not at least polished. Either way, I like your truck.

    bodyKits

Just please dont heat your springs. when you do that it weakens the metal and there a chance that sometime down the road they will snap. If you must do something to alter the springs you have, cut them. the best choice of course would be to purchase the right springs though.

    ROLL PAN 91-97

Can you explain to me why you took a mold of the stock bumper? How will that help you make a rollpan? Either way I cant wait to see how it turns out!

    my 97 xlt

Hey man, I really like that. What lower front valence is that? I dont believe i've ever seen it before?
  32. S

    bodyKits

well i can tell you that 3/4 is not the lowest you can make it. You can combine beams and springs up front for at least 5 inches. Out back you can combine lowering leaf springs and blocks for 6. Though, i would suggest a C-notch if you do 6 in the back.

    found out something interesting

hehe i'll go for a ride with ya guys if you go. Roll in deep with like 5 trucks, break down the door and be like "HEY, WHO HERE FLIPS SPINDLES ON EXPLORERS?!?!?"
