So I did a parasitic draw test with the multimeter set at 10A. With all fuses in place, the reading was .3. Removing either fuse #25 (Generic Electronic Module, Instrument Cluster, Securi-lock) or fuse #26 (Battery Saver Relay, Interior Lamp Relay) will cause that reading to drop to .015 or...
Hi all,
Have an 01 ST and the speedometer is acting up. It gets "stuck" at 50 MPH and won't go any higher. Then, when it drops, it hovers around 20. It flutters at times. The other gauges on the cluster seem to be working fine (the odometer and cruise control both work, etc). Due to this...
Hi all,
I hope everyone's ST is running better than mine!
I have a leaking oil pan and/or a rear main seal leak.
I really hope it's not the rear main seal because I was told the transmission would have to be removed for it to be replaced. Does anyone know if that's true?
That's something I...
I just took it to Advance Auto and walked through it with the guy. There's no way to get my cell phone behind to get those pictures but there is definitely no leak coming from where the head meets the valve cover anywhere...
I should also say that the oil was overfull (by a quart) but there's a lot of conflicting thoughts online about whether or not that can or will cause a leak...
Thanks for the reply. I hate to sound foolish but where are those, exactly? I've changed out starters and batteries and done other light work but I'm not an overly mechanical guy...
Hi all,
I hope everyone's ST is running better than mine ;]
Hoping for any insight as to diagnosing an oil leak. It's mostly at the base of the oil pan and some is getting on the differential cover.
I've been told it's either the rear main seal or the lower oil pan gasket but I'm trying to...
Hello,
I hope this post finds everyone (and their Ford!) doing well.
I'm getting three error codes:
P1000 Drive Cycle Test Not Complete
PO301 Cylinder 1 Misfire
PO302 Cylinder 2 Misfire
The truck has some issues. The timing chain (as is common on these engines) is starting to go. I think we...
Hello,
I hope this post finds everyone well.
I know that stop leak additives are a controversial subject but has anyone tried any for a Sport Trac Differential?
Front is leaking at the driver side axle seal (was replaced around a year ago but mechanic says the front axle is rusted and thus...
Hello,
I hope this post finds everyone well. My truck was diagnosed by a dealer with a timing chain issue.
It was relatively quiet and now is getting louder as I have a long commute. I tried additives at the last two oil changes (STP / Lucas) which did not seem to help.
Is there any way to...
Thanks for the further information. To clarify, I have very little chain noise when running (and at lower RPMs.)
One thing that is confusing to me is while some suggest using a lighter weight oil in this instance, I have seen many others also recommend using an additive such as STP Oil...
Koda, I appreciate the forthright post as I need to save money for the worst case scenario.
I have read that, however, using using a light viscosity, pure synthetic oil is the best option in the meantime.
Would you agree with that?
Thanks again.
Thanks again for all the help.
Getting an oil change in the next few weeks and am wondering if the tensioners can be seen by eye to determine if any of them need maintenance or replacement?
Also, until I can get the pre-oiler set up, is there any way to grease some of these parts or...
Thanks to everyone for the replies. It is VERY helpful as I struggle with these issues and am not overly mechanical.
So is it correct that the chains are the timing chain, gears, guide and tensioner assembly?
If a piece has snapped or broken off will I be able to spot it visually or just...
My apologies for not being more clear...This is a 2001 Ford Explorer Sport Trac. Please let me know if you need any further engine details. Also, you are correct in stating that it is a timing chain issue.
Thanks again!
Hello,
I hope this post finds everyone (and their Ford) doing well!
Getting some noises from under the hood and had the serpentine belt replaced. Although that did quiet things down some, I have been told that the timing belt will need to be replaced at some point (one mechanic said it...
Thanks for the reply. This is exacting what I was looking for!
Any advice on installation? Is it a much different size?
Looking forward to it as mechanics are telling me there is no way to do it.
Hello,
Wondering if anyone has ever replaced just a ball joint boot?
The upper boot on the front passenger side is torn / degraded but the ball joint is in good working order with no unwanted play (as verified by a mechanic and my own test.)
Sprayed inside it with white lithium grease...
Read an interesting article online stating 10 things that can cause a death wobble. Having overinflated tires was one of those things...
It happened several times on the highway and later found out that my rear passenger tire was 10 lbs under.
Could this possible be the culprit or is it...
Hey guys,
Thanks for the details which will come in handy down the road. Turns out it was the caliper slide pins needing to be greased.
Whoever put new brake pads on didn't do last time around...
Thanks again!
