    More coolant = less cooling??

Not really, had to add some to the funnel when I burped it 2 nights ago, but other than that, no. Radiator was full when I burped it 2 nights ago. When I run the heat it comes and goes (meaning it get hotter than cooler), so it seems like there is still air in the system, but dang if I know how...

    More coolant = less cooling??

Hi All, About 2 years ago was fighting a cooling issue. Replaced everything, radiator, water pump, t-stat, hoses, radiator cap, temp sensor, heater bypass valve, fan and finally the fan clutch (which was bad and fixed the problem). Rock solid since then. Last month or so started smelling faint...

    Cooling system question

That's pretty much exactly what I have in mind, except 2 small fans instead of 1. Yeah, I would only kick them on in low speed situations, below 30 mph or so or in stop and go traffic. Were you able to cram all that behind the grill, or do you run it open like the picture? Thx.

    Cooling system question

Agreed and I stand corrected. It is possible to remove the radiator from the cooling loop, if you know what you are doing and use the proper equipment. But like you said it probably only makes sense if you "need" to do it. But then again what does "need" really have to do with any of this. lol...

clank sound in front end of '93 when breaking

Weird. I have the exact same issue. I also get an intermittent clunk when I drive over bumps in the road. I've checked everything, replaced RA bushings, shocks, spring pads, checked the wheel bearings, had the suspension checked by an alignment shop twice and they can't find anything. One thing...

    Power steering cooler...

Did a search but found no answers.... anyone ever add a power steering cooler to a 1st gen?? I know 2nds and on came OEM with them. Just tinkering with the idea and wanted to know if any others had blazed a trail. Thanks!

temp gauge moves back and fourth

Mine does the exact same thing. New radiator, fan, clutch, water pump, thermostat and cap (not to correct this problem, btw). I suspect it is either a sending unit or just a fluctuation of temps is the thermostat opens and closes. I'm not terribly worried as it never ever gets over halfway on...

    Cooling system question

Only if you want to burn up your transmission quickly. The radiator is the primary cooling system for the transmission. The smaller dedicated cooler is secondary. You can increase the size of the smaller cooler, add on axillary elec. fans if you like, but do not disconnect the radiator from the...

    Tapping into stock wiring harness...

What is the best place to tap into the stock harness and not mangle it? Ideally I would like to wire up a small distribution block with a relay for accessories like fog lights, aux cooling fans, underbody lights, etc. Any ideas?? oh, 92 XLT mostly stock. Thanks fellas.....

    92 XLT remote entry...

Howdy all, so here is the deal. I have a 92 XLT that has remote locks on it. One key fob was stolen, the other is on it's last legs, so obviously I want to replace. My question is will the 93 and up key fob work? On all the siters I don't see factory '92 key fobs listed. Before you ask it isn't...

Ticking going up hill on freeway

In addition to all the excellent information here, there is a Ford TSB about this problem. I'll paste it in here in a sec. I have a 92 and am fighting the same issue. Over the years I've done a new MAF, plugs, intake manifold gasket, etc. It gets better for a while, then comes back. I'm gonna...

    Knocking/vibrating noise from Blower motor

Yep, mind did the same thing. The bearings start to wear giving the shaft in and out play. It's not enough that you would think it could make much noise, but it is. I tried oiling it, tightening the squirrel cage, everything. Finally gave in, spent $40 and bought a new blower motor. Took less...

Brake issue I just can't track down

I had all kinds of wackiness going on when I did the rears on my '92 XLT. Basically ended up replacing everything (including the RABS valve), but still had problem with the rears not bleeding and no pedal travel. Had to disconnect the battery, then everything was fine. I think the RABS valve...

    No Back BRAKES!!! Help

Bleed the RABS valve, adjust the rear shoes properly, then bleed the rear brakes. Just as stated above. However disconnect the battery first. On my '92 if you don't the system interprets you bleeding the rears as a leak and shuts down the rear system, making it impossible to bleed. Reconnect the...

Smoke billowing out from the rear drums, woops

It should be located on the bottom of the backing plate. Usually they are oblong shaped... KC

Smoke billowing out from the rear drums, woops

Check and make sure there isn't a seal leak from the axle or the brake pistons into the drum. Sounds to me like it heated up and burned off some grease that was in there. Try the sanding and re-adjusting as stated above, the pads are definitely glazed at the very least. If that doesn't work...

Smoke billowing out from the rear drums, woops

Hmmmm, Does the ebrake not have any tension on it, meaning can you push it all the way down, or does the tighten up but it just won't hold? KC

    Brakes

I just went through this whole fun scenario so let me add my 2 cents..... bleed everything just as stated above... but FIRST disconnect the battery. I'm not 100% sure, but I think the computer monitors the rear brake pressure somehow, possibly in the RABS valve. If it detects a loss of pressure...

    Nuts, of the lug variety...

Just a quick question.... when purchasing lugs for the "Outlaw II" style factory aluminum mags should I go with an acorn or bulge acorn style? I seem to be getting different answers all over the place. Soooo, I thought I'd ask those in the know. Thanks as usual.... KC

Them's tha brakes, or lack thereof...

First off, a hearty thank you to everyone that replied. As usual you guys (and gals, can't forget the ladies) came through as I knew you would. Turns out it was a completely crudded up combination valve. Sucker was naaaaasty. Switched it out and all is well. Now I have all 4 wheels when I hit...

I use stock plugs and swap every 30k miles. More often when I had a leaky intake gasket. KC

Them's tha brakes, or lack thereof...

OK Gents, try this on for size. Last weekend took the Ex in for an alignment. The tech tells me the front brakes look pretty bad. I go take a look and yes they are bad. They want $1200 for new everything up front. $300 and an hour later I'm starting the job myself. New everything. Rotors...

    Code questions.... EGR???

Soooooo, It turns out you are right (as usual) MrShorty. I bow in reverence. It was 111, not 33. Duh to me. Since I'm getting the all clear from the computer any ideas on my next step? I've already replaced the intake gaskets, cleaned the MAF, Seafoamed the engine and went through a complete...
