Official Colorado Colors Run 09 - Ouray: Sept 4-7th, 2009

Ouray, what a fun time. I nearly forgot about this site and all the great people I met on that trip. I do have an excuse as I am getting Married that weekend. She is a great girl that I hope to introduce to the Black Bear some day. I also bought a house that seems to make all the Explorer...

    Imput on this rim?

I just want to add one more thing about 9" rims. When I went from stock (7"?) to my 8" rims I noticed a little more play when holding the wheel perfectly still. I think the tread is able to move side to side more compared to the smaller rim. I think as the side wall straightens out on wider...

    Tow Hook Question

it is hard to see in the picture, but the bolt from the Bull Bar is not in the same plane as the ones in the frame. I though about putting them upside down but that would have required cutting parts of the frame and bumper (the metal bumper not the plastic). I also thought about turning the...

    Tow Hook Question

Believe me, I tried. Turning the bracket would push the holes for the Bull Bar to far apart or to close together. The only way I could see it working is to modify the current bracket or make a new one. Something I don't have the equipment to do.

    Imput on this rim?

They look GRRREAT. I hate to burst your bubble but is a 9 inch wide rim to much for 265/75R16 tire. What do you guys think? They would definitely look sweat so I hope I am wrong.

    Tow Hook Question

JCUZ, could you post pictures of how you connected it. I may give me an idea.

    Tow Hook Question

Longer bolts shouldn't be a problem as long as it is solid metal in between the head and the nut. Chris wanted to use a sleeve on the bolt to extend it low enough to get past the bottom of the bully bar. The sleeve would have allowed the bolt to bend. The brackets that come with the Westin...

    Tow Hook Question

I dont know if your mount is exactly like my Westin bar but I would be careful with the sleeves on the bolts. You would create a situation were the longer bolt could rotate. Once the bolt rotates (bends) it could become weak and break. If you do it for looks you would be fine, but any pulling...

    X-cal2 and Rancho quick lift.

I'll 2nd Donner on that. QL are expensive and touchy. The first set I had worked great, but started to leak. I have had problems getting a good alignment since I got them replaced. I do have the theory that a person can go past the 3" limit on the front end if they combine RB spacer with a...

MPG vs. Tire Size (Information to Ponder)!

I only make 1 or 2 trips a year were I can get an accurate reading. Short 2 mile trips during the week, and 300 mile trips on the weekend that take me form 6,600 ft to 11,000 ft back down to 4,800 ft. I wish I have one of them trip computers. It would be fun to see what I get when I come down...

    2002+ Offroading Photos Wanted

MPGs went from 18 to 16. Don't know how that compares to everyone else. Plus size tires will always get worse, but I am guessing that as they are designed for highway first the do better then offroad tires.

Sorry for the slow response. Girl friend is kind of distracting me lately.;) I have been very happy with them to this point. I am starting to get some uneven wear on them after about 25,000 miles. I think it is an alignment issue but I've had it in the shop twice and they can't get it...

3rd Gen Driving Light Install Question

Thanks for the responses, I will be working on this during the week. I might be back with some questions later. TruckU or Sandy would it be possible to post a diagram showing what you are stating? I would put more time into now, but the girlfriend is about to show up for the weekend. I will...

3rd Gen Driving Light Install Question

After much reading and head scratching:scratch:, I have decided I need some help. I am installing two KC driving lights on my 03 X. I would like hook them to my High Beams, but the instructions say this. Most 2000 and later vehicles. If you choose to activate your lights through your...

    coil spring spacers

Looks good! I would love to see the silver one. I bet it would look good on my silver EX.;) I am still debating on doing 2" front and back. I just don't know if the 2" will work with my QL in the front (it already has 2" of lift.) So when you joined the site a little over 6 months ago...

A day on the trail. :) Many Pics

That seams counter productive:shifty_ey edit: forget that, I didn't see the question mark.

A day on the trail. :) Many Pics

My Crazy Idea for a Snokel. I saw somewhere on this site, someone cut holes in his hood for drop in air scoops. It looked really good. I was thinking a person could do something like that for a functioning ram air. Then when you are offroading you have some type of cover that either bolts on...

A day on the trail. :) Many Pics

Just a quick question on snorkels. Has anyone ever driven a vehicle before and after install? I ask because it looks like they would severely slow down the air intake thus resulting in a HP loss. I have thought about putting one on after this fun trip, but I just can't justify it is going...

Photos *Official* Return from CCR08 - Ouray Colorado Pics and Trip Reports

At the bottom of this trail it is about a mile to the next trail. I think as long as you didn't spend the day hanging in Teluride you would be fine. I think that sign is mainly for dirt bikes and ATVs. Apparently they make to much noise for the locals.

    2002+ Offroading Photos Wanted

Wow, everyone thought I was nuts for taking my truck on Black Bear Pass. All that is is a few rocks here and there with one big drop off if you get stupid. I personally believe mud is a lot harder on a vehicle than bouncing over rocks. That Explorer is way to nice to drive through that mess...

    2002+ Offroading Photos Wanted

I do like the way they look. Unfortunately I have spent a lot of money on ball joint and alignment issues. I think it is putting to much pressure on them. I guess my offroad activities this summer could be partially to blame, but I really had no problem until the new rims.

Well, I can't speak for Tbars Ranger but my rims give me that offset. I really like the stability on the highway, but i wish they stuck out about half as much.

Ben, I still think you have the sickest looking 3rd Gen on the site, but Donner is definitely giving you a run for the money. I think when you are both done you should come out to Colorado and do some posing.;) We could do a vote off/ pull off for it.
