i havent done any mods to my sport's engine, exhaust or drivetrain yet. but i have some small mods id like to do but i want to know if it will be a significant difference. i was thinkin of a kkm, a borla or gibson exhaust, chip and maybe MAF. with all these done to a stock 01 sport, what kind of difference do you guys think i would experiance with my 0-60 time?

IMO you really don't need another MAF so save your money like something useful (zaino for example). Your intake is only as good as its smallest point. So if you did that you would need to upgrade your TB and so on.......It's only a 4.0 liter, how much could it flow anyway?

With the addition of intake and exhaust mods, you'll notice a difference with your Y2K1 X Sport. A chip will also boost your hp and torque.

The addition of ram-air and a cold box will help the engine pull in more cold air and the KKM Ture Rev will allow more air into the TB. This is even more important in hot weather or when you're not moving that fast.

how fast is your 0-60 time?

hey 2k1 how fast is your time in 0-60 cuase i think i read somewhere that the 2001 2002 explorer is about 10 sec in 0-60 is that true...

our sport does 10 secs? damn......... you have tempted me to try..... im always scared to do so because i remember the last time i pushed my engine the engine light poped up and i pulled over to the side of the road and poped the hood (i had no idea what i was doing but i was trying to see if i screwed anything up) i think i flored it going from 30 to about 85 or 90 trying to show some sort of power compared to my friend's ford lightning...... thats when i decided i need to do some performance mods.

That time is for the new 4-door. I believe the stock time for an '01 Sport with 5-speed is around 8.6.

This from the May 2000 issue of Motor Trend:

0-60 time - 8.4 sec.
Standing quarter mile - 16.5 sec.
Now remember this is with a fresh (read tight) engine and a 3.73 rear axle ratio.

There was one other review, may be 'Truckin', that has the 0-60 at 7.9 and the 1/4 mile at 16.1. I ain't sure since I just added the times to the Motor Trend printout.

With the addition of intake/exhaust mods and a chip, you could expect about a 7.3-7.6 second 0-60 time and a 1/4 mile elapsed time of 15.3-15.7 seconds.

I think it was MT also that tested the new four door at 10 seconds from 0-60.

I just checked the Motor Trend site and that time is with the Auto and 4WD. I would think the manual 2wd would have noticably better accelleration. I have only driven my 2WD so I don't know first hand how the 4WD compares!

The 10 sec. time was from motor trend on a pre-production model. So far every test has been in the low to high 8 second range for the 2002 4dr. I have the Motor Trend magazine here with the truck shootout (09-2001) The 2002 Exp. Eddie Bauer 4wd got to 60 in 8.7 seconds and did the quarter mile in 16.5 at 82.1 (and this is with 3.73 gears) The funny part was how they kept calling the engine slugish and lagging behind GM's V6, look at the these times for the Envoy V6 0-60 in 8.5 quarter in 16.3 at 84.8. mph. Pretty pathetic when you consider the Envoy had a large advantage in hosepower and torque along with 4.10 gears. Another test between the Highlander, Explorer and I think the trailblazer or one of the clones, they threw in an awd 2002 Mountaineer w/ v8 and it did the run to 60 in 7.8 sec. and had a very large advantage when it came to accelerating while pulling a load.

Mine almost does high ten seconds in the quarter mile. LOL

Low 14s, :p

Mine did the same thing, if you over stress the motor the system freaks out for some reason. This only when I had it floored from about 30 to 80.

What product could help this from not happening when you wanna floor it at such speed? (if there is any)

If the check engine light comes on you should see if there are any codes. That would tell you what is wrong or what the computer thinks is wrong. Then you could tackle the problem.

i mean it was just like a quick flick when i hit 87.... then i let up right when it went on and then it just went away in a flash....

Then I wouldn't worry much about it. I also fail to see how a manufacturer could produce a vehicle that can't be floored. Unless the light flashes repeatedly or stays on, it's no biggie. In fact, my CEL goes on now and then for a sensor I just replaced!

You might want to have it checked. My light came on once and stayed on for a couple days. It didn't affect the way it ran at all. I took it in and they found my gas cap to be faulty!

Floorin it 30 to 80, nice! :-)
