00 Ford Explorer Engine Cuts Out When I Hit A Bump

Okay-

Problem started a few days ago. I was driving and I hit a sharp bump and the check engine light came on, and went away. I was driving at a much slower pace and hit another bump and the engine cuts out completely! So, I take it to a shop to get repaired, and he couldnt find the problem $200 dollar bill. He changed the fuel filter and tightened the ground wires.

When the engine is warm this problem occurs most often. I hit a bump and the engine cuts out, if I am driving fast enough it will keep going, but at slower speeds I have to restart it! When I was parked at the store (bumpy parking lot) had to back up and every time I had to put it in reverse the engine would cut out. Then trying to get safely home on a bumpy busy highway it cut out again and would not restart, had to get towed.

So what is wrong with my explorer????? Any advice would greatly be appreciated!

i would check your alternator cable and your battery cables, make sure they are tight and not gunna fall apart in your hands, just besure to disconect the battery before screwing with the cables, you dont wanna get zapped.

when you get it in a "no start condition", do the "normal checks"... do you hear the pump, do you have fuel pressure, do you have spark, etc. answers to those will help you and the forum find the problem.

sounds maybe like a bad inertia switch but could be other things check the memory for codes it should give insight into the problem

Make sure your battery is tied down properly. I read another post on here similer to this and it turned out that the battery was shorting out against the inside of the hood when he hit a bump. I'll try and find the post.

There are lots of options here, but let's consider what happened sequentially:

Your check-engine light was the first symptom. After that, it cut-out completly. To me it seems as though the check-engine light a sign of failure. Maybe a connector started wiggling off, and the check-engine light was caused by it's intermittent signal.

I'd go from bumper to bumper and check every electrical connectors fit in its mate. Check the critical connectors thoroughly by removing them and inspecting the pins and sockets for corrosion or moisture. Lubricate everything with some dielectric grease and reassemble them.

I'd bet money that a connector with your fuel system, PCM, or a large in-line connector is corroded and breaking a mass of circuits at once, causing the truck to shut down.
