02 Explorer Dash Brake Light

Can anybody tell me why the brake light on the control panel does not come on when the emergency brake is on? I sometimes drive with the emergency brake on because I forget it is on and the light apparently doesn't work. Could the switch need replaced? Once in a great while the light will be on and stay on until I fiddle with the release, then it goes out.

Welcome aboard!!

I had the same problem when I bought my Ex.

I took the switch off and cleaned the contacts and it has been working ever since, over 2 years!!

The switch is located at the top of the e-brake pedal. It only has 1 wire attached to it. Disconnect the wire and remove the switch, then clean the contacts and you should be good to go!!
