03 fliptrac $700 daily driver (summer of fun with 4 sport tracs)

I sent him a PM just now, I haven't browsed enough to know all the best or worst members there, it is massive.

I also have some Flowtek 180 heads to sell still, very good choices for a mild 302 with nice camshaft and compression(plus tuning). Heads are crazy expensive now unfortunately. What used to be $1200 for a good brand nice head, now those run $1700 for almost all. Top level brands and power flow, those are now $2500 a set easily. Lower level stuff is still $1000 or so, and the quality and features suffer versus the upper brands etc. Mine were gone through by Thumper, and old well known GT40 porter. I had a custom cam valve spring kit swapped into them, so they are set up for ,600" lift now(not generic cheap springs that are "good to .600"). I have $1200 in them, I'd take that now just because I don't plan to build that 306 anymore. I'll eventually make a sell thread on here and the Corral, I've been too ####.

I’m for sure interested in the heads
I need to build this engine back up and eventually go into my personal trac. Let’s work something out I’ll give you $1200 for them for sure

Cool, they are nice and I was looking forward to seeing what a hotter 306(compression) would do in the Explorer with the limits of the exhaust and 4R70W. I was eyeing a nice $550 Wiseco piston set and planning to build it myself. I was aiming for regular gas to run at work full time and hard, I use about seven gallons a day right now. Premium is way too high, I remember when mid grade was $0.10 more per gallon, and premium was just $0.20 more. This $0.50 to $0.90 more per gallon is way too much for a constant DD car. The compression needs to be in the mid 9's for regular, near 10:1 is pushing the limit, which is where a custom cam guy is really important.

Used cam! Heck yes I’ll contact them now
Thank you
Sob I signed up but do not have privileges yet to contact him or reply
He’s in Montana too not far to ship. I have the cash want to purchase dang. If you are a member over there could you contact the dude and let him know? I can send him email if I have his address

I asked him about it, we'll see when he replies. If you did join, you can post in his thread and claim the cam, just post that "I'll take it" and then work out the details. I'll try to be quick and let you know if he posts something.

Waiting on pictures for that center console when you have time please!

Hooked up w the dude from corral and bought the used camshaft! Thanks so much @CDW6212R!!!! Now I can fulfill my dreams hahahahaha just with a different slightly higher miles used 5.0 this time and I will loctite and torque the damn bolt

This 5.0 looks like it was run hot a time or two
Ran fine a few months ago before I pulled it. This will be the new power plant for the $700 trac
I will be using the xr264 cam springs and pushrods I will also
Change the Valve stem seals

And of course the two front most bolts in the lower intake snapped off. Working to extract them now (torch)
I tore the block down and flipped it upside down,
Cleaned out the holes and soaked these with pb blaster overnite

Once it's running again, we need some videos.

Still patiently waiting for that information on the bolt locations on that center console (Pics)
@410Fortune

It will happen! We had to rebuild our bridge so all the neighbors got together and rehabbed it…
Finishing it up this am
Then I’m back on trucks! Gaskets for the sport trac a the used cam are in!! very excited to get back in the shop

Well done, household chores or tasks are a huge part of life. I wish I had the close knit neighbors you do, and the great nature and outdoors there too. That would be fun a lot of the time, I know the Winters are harsh and testing too.

If I lived in a environment/area like his working on these trucks would be way down on my to do list! I get it if you need transportation but enjoying all that nature would be my priority! Not knocking anyone for their life choices here just expressing mine but I'm 63 years old too! Lol

It is all about finding your balance
We live deep in the woods, when I’m building trucks I’m in my oasis
Next big project is swim pond/ natural pool
But that is after siding the whole house
Build the deck and as a bonus I picked up a 52 ford Tudor hotrod I plan to complete before 2025
I have truck life and then everything else back here on the “modern homestead”
Solar upgrade is done
Bridge is done

Plus I found time to mow the whole property have been taking the kids and grandparents out on grandpas boat as well
Wouldn’t change a thing

I’m doing much of this now so when I’m 63
I can just sit in the river all day and post on explorerforum!!

Enjoy being young while you can! Like here today my mind says man I need to get outside and get somethings done but when it's 99 degrees outside with the heat index of 108 degrees F that I'll pass!
If something is a priority well that's different.
Do you have a tick issue up there in the woods?
I really enjoy seeing those pictures of your area man! I have seen some beautiful parts of this country when I was trucking over the road but on the flip side seen some **** hole cities too. Lol

here are the bolt hole locations for the full length console!!
9F48CC4A-9932-43FF-BEC6-6144AADD8C98.jpeg

Two front 8mm that go in horizontal right below the hvac controls

Then there are two 8mm going vertically into the floor here, just in front of the Kleenex box

After those 4 bolts are out you wiggle it side to side a bit and then a firm pull rear ward towards the back seat and the console will release

All my parts are in, I was waiting on remflex manifold gaskets a timing set and head bolts
Now I can assemble the engine with new/ used cam hopefully have a running trac again by tomorrow

This is a 97-98 5.0 unknown miles was told “under 100k” it looks to be low mile inside but also quite a bit more carbon then I like to see, looks like it was run hot a time or two. It ran perfectly before it was pulled. This was in the black sport trax.

All new gaskets fel pro and remflex exhaust
Comp cams timing set and felpro head
Bolts. New Murray ac compressor this time around too

Today it’s getting new/used comp cam and all supporting parts all new gaskets and then stab it to the 5 speed!!

Ready for gaskets!

Since you're in there, might as well stroke it to a 347.

Have you heard of anyone trying the Flow Kooler water pump yet? I just ordered two WP's from Summit, that high end one, and a reverse flow unit for one of my 351 Cleveland's.

I have priced that several times over the last 3-4 years. Unfortunately what was possible for $1100ish, now will cost $1500 easily just for the reciprocating assembly. That's when I stopped looking at a basic rebuild as feasible, and a used late 3.7 swap(with 6R trans) might be cheaper(though much more complicated).

Exact same reason I have not done open heart surgery on the 78 mustang I got. Cool to keep it original but the newer engines can make more power for less money.
