Hey guys I know there are lots of possibilities with this going on. Truck has about 205k on it. But it's got a new fuel pump and ect. Ect seemed to make a difference in how it ran but back to same thing it will intermittently take long crank to start. Idles fine has pretty good power. Dk what's wrong with it thought bout have ford do a diagnostic on it see what they come up with. Cause I dont wanna just go and start replacing stuff. Any ideas?

Check the fuel pressure

New fuel pump, strainer AND filter???

The odds are something is causing a loss of fuel pressure when the engine isn't running. Try cycling the fuel pump a few times by switching on the ignition 2-3 times without engaging the starter and then see if it starts immediately on the 3rd or 4th try. This allows fuel pressure in the lines to build up prior to turning the engine over. If it does start as it should then start looking into the pump and all the associated components and anything that acts as a check valve in the fuel system. The thread I linked above goes into detail on this process.

You can splice a check valve into the fuel line just after the filter to determine if pressure is lost after the valve when the vehicle sits for a while. If the pressure drops at the rails then it is after the valve. If the pressure at the rails holds then it is before the valve and it is likely the pump is leaking off pressure. If it is the pump then the check valve might solve your problem. Have you checked for trouble codes?

Leak at the pump or split line ?

Has new fuel pump and yea it helps when I cycle the key. I noticed yesterday it started to rev up to like 3 grand after starting then idled funny. Codes say evap leak.

You can have a bad “New” pump.

yes you can especially if it is a cheapo pump
It sounds like something may have been missed during fuel pump install...computer says large EVAP leak then maybe it is..... vapor line not hooked up, pressure gauge not plugged in....check the fuel pump install work
Long crank with a SOHC is USUALLY weak fuel pressure especially if priming the pump a few times helps at startup

Okay will do. Gotta bigger problem atm.. power steering lines are rotting off the rack.. and pump. Lol

Okay got the power steering under control. So I noticed after I cycled key after it set a few days. Cycled 3 times fired right up no problem so I think fuel pressure is bleeding of like you all said. Any wa ugh I can test the regulator? Down by the idler pulley?

If pressure is bleeding off after the pump you will typically smell gas. Since it starts normally after cycling a few times it likely isn't leaky injectors. My money is on a bad fuel pump.

the fuel pressure regulator is in the fuel tank on your 03

Bad vacuum line from intake to module on driver side inner fender below battery?
