Hello ,
We have a 2004 Mercury Mountianeer V8 AWD . We are the only owner she has have , the only issues we have had with her is new battery , alternater , upper and lower ball joints , and the front differential carrier mounting bushing ( that is what the shop that looked at said that was what it was called ) . We are trying to find the bushings so we can get it mounted back like it should . It only pops or make a clunk sound when we turn sharp and slow , forward and reverse . I was wondering if someone could help me out on this and let me know if we can just get the bushing beens they are worn badly ? Or do we got to do something else like the hole bracket or if we would half to rebuild the hole differential ( sure hope not cause it itself is good just needs the new mounting bushing ) . This is the only thing that is wrong with her . Every one keeps telling me just keep driving it like she is . I call parts stores here and they act like they have no clue what we are talking about . But if someone could help me out advice and all would greatly appreciate it . Thanks

Welcome to the forum. :chug:

I'm going to bump this thread up so hopefully someone can help you out. I'm not very familiar with the 3rd gen Explorers.

Thank you I sure hope someone can help me out . :}

Anyone have an answer??

Well have finally found the answer to this question of mine . You can just replace the mounting bushings in the front . It is a dealer item only but it can be done . So if any one else has this problem it can be fixed without replacing the hole mounting bracket .

Moutaineerfam I have the same problem with bad front differential carrier bushings on 04 Explorer AWD. Were you able to replace the bushings without removing the entire front differential

Hello Wfrank , Yes you can just as long as it is not leaking or anything . You do half to take to hole front end apart and half to press the bushings back in but it can be done . :)

Where did you get the bushing from exactly?
