I know exactly what you're talking about, I had the same thing happen to me on my last car. I leased a 2005 Infiniti FX in December (had a sticker price of $48K
or so) and the aluminum trim on the rear hatch just above the license plate looked like it was rusted. That was about four months after I spent all that cash on a dang import.
I took it to the dealer and was told that there wasn't really much they could do; apparently there is some sort of seal that is supposed to protect aluminum accents from the elements, but once the seal is broken; Game Over. I had the car for four months and they said sorry. Salt is the element that does the most damage, so I'm sure that some of the tons of salt, dumped into Michigan winter roadways was the culprit.
I'm proud to say I'm back in a Ford and I haven't had to deal with the winter yet.
